The large flowers of the ‘Criterion’ rose are a beautiful deep Indian pink with a hint of carmine. They measure between 12 and 15 cm in diameter and emit a powerful and heady fragrance. The rose bush ‘La France’ is world-renowned as it is considered the first hybrid tea rose created in 1867. It thus inaugurated the era of modern roses. This makes it a historic rose! The event took place during the World Exposition in Paris that year. Jean-Baptiste Guillot presented a new rose obtained through hybridization as part of a competition organised by the Horticultural Society of Lyon to reward the most beautiful rose. The winning plant was named “La France.” This rose bush captivated the jury with its very elegant shape and colour, intense fragrance, and excellent vase life. Created by the rose breeder Delbard in 2017, the rose ‘Sophie Rochas’ is truly original.
