Symbol of love, roses have inspired many poets and writers. From Pierre de Ronsard’s famous poem to Umberto Eco’s contemporary novel The Name of the Rose, and from the medieval courtly poem The Romance of the Rose, flowers with coloured, scented petals and sharp thorns have inspired much writing. Climbing rose 'Pierre de Ronsard', utterly charming
Sweetheart, let us see if the rose that opened this morning, …” Everyone knows Pierre de Ronsard’s poem. If any poet deserves to have a rose named after him, it’s certainly him! And the rose that bears his name exudes irresistible charm. The Rose ‘Pierre de Ronsard’ is a climbing rose that can reach up to 2 m in height and can also spread to about 2 m in width. Its large double flowers display shades ranging from pink to white, giving it an irresistible old garden rose look. Not fragrant, they bloom from June until first frosts. Vigorous, it is a heavy feeder and should be planted in full sun. Award-winning and repeatedly recognised, it was bred by Meilland in 1985. Whether in a romantic bouquet or trained on an arch, it wins hearts of flower lovers.

Rose 'Ingrid Lindgren', a touch of sweet briar
The Rose ‘Ingrid Lingren’ is a cultivar from Danish rose breeder Poulsen, created in tribute to Swedish novelist Ingrid Lindgren. It blooms from June to October and bears clustered flowers of a vivid pink that fade as they open. They recall large wild roses with a centre filled with yellow stamens and give off light scents of wild rose and raspberry. This rose forms an upright bush with an erect habit, reaching 1.8 m in height, and produces abundant flowering from June to October, even November. It can be grown in a garden or on a terrace in a large pot. Having won several awards and distinctions, it is renowned for vigour, disease resistance and abundant flowering.

Another rose from the modern English Legend hybrids created by Robert Harkness, the English rose ‘Sherlock Holmes’ bears flowers in unusual apricot-tinged shades of orange. It gives off a fruity, spicy fragrance. Vigorous and very hardy, it’s a reliable choice! It forms a bush 90 cm tall and flowers abundantly from June to October. Can be used in small hedges, in borders or in flowerbeds. It is also lovely in vases.

Created by David Austin as a tribute to the English poet and novelist, English rose ‘Emily Bronte’ exudes a singular beauty. With its flowers in delicate shades of pink opening in a cupped shape packed with numerous petals around an apricot-coloured centre, it evokes romance. This bush, with a rounded habit and reaching up to 1.5 m in height, flowers from June to October. Its fragrance recalls that of tea roses and old roses, refreshed by notes of lemon and grapefruit.

Rose ‘Emily Bronte’
Rose 'Alphonse Daudet' with large flowers, delicate colours
The Rose ‘Alphonse Daudet’ is a modern hybrid tea belonging to the Romantica series and bred by Meilland. This shrub reaches 75 cm at ripeness and produces large double flowers in delicate shades of yellow shaded with orange and veined with pink and red. The softness of its colours perfectly complements its tea rose fragrance, with fruity notes and cut herb. This vigorous variety grows equally well in a garden or in a container on a balcony or terrace. It produces very full flowers from May to October.

Created by Delbard, the Large-flowered rose ‘Chartreuse de Parme’ is an award-winning hybrid tea that has received numerous prizes. It stands out for the originality of its violet-pink colour, the size of its flowers and its powerful old-rose fragrance with notes of citrus trees and mandarin. It has everything to please! This bush with a bushy habit can reach up to 90 cm in height, which makes it suitable to grow in a pot or in open ground. It charms above all with its fragrance but also with its rare colour. It is also appreciated in bouquets paired with lilies or asters.
