Hello, I have received the package, but the vine-plant Astrid Lindgren shrub rose is not in good condition. I hope it will recover. The package is not damaged. Promesse de Fleurs' response: I apologize for the inconvenience, but the season has caused the roses to suffer from the weather. We do not perform any treatment during the season, which explains the spots on the foliage. This will not compromise the growth of the young plant once in the soil. Please keep us updated on its progress. Best regards

Description

Rosa 'Astrid Lindgren' stands out with its vigour, good disease resistance, and abundant flowering. It has received several awards and distinctions from various European countries. This repeat-flowering rose forms a large bush, bearing countless semi-double roses for 4 to 5 months. Their lovely pale-pink fades at maturity, opening like large dog roses with a heart of yellow stamens. They are gathered in long bouquets, emitting a light scent of wild rose and raspberry. It can be grown in the garden and in large pots on a patio.

Rosa Astrid Lindgren 'Pouluf', sometimes marketed under the names 'Charentes' or 'Dream Sequence', is an excellent variety obtained by the Danish rose breeder Poulsen, introduced in 1991. Its parentage is kept secret. It belongs to the floribunda rose category, with clustered flowers in large corymbs at the ends of young shoots. This fast-growing variety quickly forms a shrub with an upright and bushy habit. It will reach about 1.8m (6ft) in height and 1.2m (4ft) in width. It is covered with fairly dense green foliage that is fairly disease-resistant. Its flowering is abundant from June to October-November, in successive waves. Its corollas, measuring 7 to 9cm (3 to 4in) wide, are semi-double, opening into compound cups of 8 to 15 petals, gathered in bouquets with numerous flowers. Their colour is a fresh pink that fades with age. The petals grow around a well-stocked centre of stamens. The flowers emit a light and fruity fragrance. Note that Rosa Astrid Lindgren performs very well in cold climates.

Halfway between hybrid tea roses and more playful botanical roses, Rosa Astrid Lindgren easily suits any garden. Plant it isolated near the house in a small garden, in a large romantic bed, or in an informal hedge if you have more space. Just like the roses Rush, Maria Lisa, 'Ballerina' or 'Mozart', it is a worry-free variety that will quickly structure or expand a country-style decor or an English garden. Other sturdy and floriferous roses (Rosy, La Sevillana, Denise Grey) can accompany it. Astrid Lindgren can also be integrated into a cosmopolitan bed, composed of pink daylilies, small abelias, mock oranges, perovskia, fuchsia pink shrubby salvias, lavenders, clary sage, and miscanthus.

Planting and care

Place it in a sunny position or, at most, in partial shade—plant in ordinary, well-tilled, and well-drained soil from November to March. Roses prefer clayey soils that are rather heavy than light. In soils that are too sandy, too compact, or too dry in summer, it is advisable to incorporate potting soil, well-rotted manure, or compost at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dislikes waterlogged soils in winter. Roses are nutrient-demanding plants so a specific fertiliser will be beneficial at the start of the growing season and regularly throughout the flowering period. Regularly remove faded flowers to encourage new blooms.

Roses may develop stains or blemishes at the end of summer, however, this is a natural process and will not harm the rose.

Care

Pruning instructions To encourage new flowers, it is recommended to regularly remove faded flowers. Floribunda rose varieties that produce many flowers are more vigorous than large-flowered rose varieties. During late winter, it is important to prune the stems back by approximately one-quarter of their length, leaving 4 to 6 budsfrom the base of the stem. Always prune above an outward-facing bud to encourage bushy growth and prevent branches from tangling in the centre.
Pruning Pruning recommended once a year

Disease resistance Good
Overwinter Can be left in the ground
