Clematis viticella ‘Astra Nova’

Here is a Clematis producing stunning star-shaped flowers: Clematis viticella ‘Astra Nova’. Its flower is formed of 6 bicoloured sepals: cream white, marginate with violet blue. Just as magnificent and in the same style, the flowers of Clematis viticella ‘I am Lady J’ have only 4 sepals, but these are much wider and curved compared to the variety ‘Astra Nova’. Combine Clematis ‘Astra Nova’ with a Jasmine in yellow (Jasminum officinale ‘Clotted Cream’ for example). Yellow and violet are two opposite colours, but they pair very well together to energise the garden!

Clematis viticella ‘Pernille’

Very refined, it is hard to resist the large single flowers of Clematis viticella ‘Pernille’. This recent Dutch variety, awarded a gold medal in 2017, blooms from June to September, producing numerous well-opened flowers, about ten centimetres in diameter, shaded in a beautiful gradient of white, mauve, and pink. Very similar, Clematis viticella ‘Super Nova’ offers darker blue-violet flowers. The soft colours of this clematis can be complemented by the immaculate flowers of Schizophragma hydrangeoides, also known as climbing false hydrangea, with which they blend wonderfully.
