What to grow? Solutions and suitable vegetables

How to set up and grow a vegetable garden in the shade?
While deep shade can be a major obstacle to establishing a vegetable garden, it is often possible to improve the exposure of a plot to grow fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, although most vegetable plants require good sunlight, some thrive perfectly well, or even grow better, in the shade.
Let in the light and accelerate global warming.
Before installing your vegetable garden, carefully observe your garden and determine which elements cast shadows. If they are trees or large bushes, carry out some thinning of the branches to ensure they are well-aerated and allow light to pass through.
If it is a hedge, evergreen, dense, and tall to boot, consider pruning it to reduce its obstruction to the sun’s rays.
Next, think about properly orienting your growing beds so they benefit from maximum sunlight.
Finally, because a lack of light is generally accompanied by a delayed warming of the soil (which postpones the establishment of crops by several weeks), create mounds or slightly raised beds so the soil warms up more quickly in spring.

Instead of harvesting tomatoes, courgettes, and other sun-loving vegetables, take advantage of the shade to grow vegetables that thrive in it, such as:
- leafy vegetables grown in summer: lettuces, chicories, watercress, rocket, spinach…
- a large number of herbs: parsley, mint, chives, chervil, coriander, lovage
- vegetables whose petioles are consumed, such as rhubarb, angelica, chards
- berries such as wild strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries….
Moreover, many vegetables like beetroot, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and peas can also thrive in partial shade, but their growth will be slower and their productivity slightly lower.
