The oleander is a Mediterranean shrub with a lot of charm. It bears evergreen foliage which makes it decorative all year round. Its long, leathery and pointed leaves are present year-round. In summer, it offers single or double flowers, sometimes scented and in a range of colours, from white to red, including yellow, pink and salmon. This shrub thrives in regions with mild winters as it generally does not withstand temperatures below -8°C. However, it can be grown in colder regions if you take care to bring it indoors during frosts. It prefers sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil and appreciates watering in summer when it is flowering, between June and September. It is lightly pruned in spring or after flowering. Oleander 'Papa Gambetta' – Nerium oleander

Oleander ‘Papa Gambetta — Nerium oleander seduces with its generous flowering in an intense salmon-pink colour. At mature size, it reaches a height of 1.5 metres with a width of 1 metre. Its evergreen foliage makes it a bush valued all year round. Its tough, elongated and pointed leaves are dark green with a grey underside. From June to September, it produces a deep-coloured flowering that catches the eye. The flowers are single and have a diameter of 4 cm. They are slightly scented and attract pollinators. Easy to grow, this oleander prefers sun, or even partial shade, and thrives in a region with mild winters, as its hardiness is not its strong point. It tolerates temperatures down to -8 to -10°C. Below this, frost protection will be required. It adapts very well to sea spray and drought.

Plant this compact oleander in a small garden, at the back of a border or in a small hedge. You can also grow it in a pot on your balcony. As a companion, you can plant a small Grevillea, whose pink flowers will harmonise with those of the oleander.

Oleander ‘Emilie‘ – Nerium oleander forms a dense, ramified bush 3.5 metres tall when it reaches maturity and 3 metres wide. With its evergreen leaves, dark green above and ashy underneath, it remains decorative all year round. Between June and October, it bears single flowers 4 cm in diameter in a light, fresh pink. They emit a faint fragrance and attract pollinating insects. Like all oleanders, this bush thrives in regions with mild winters, as it is susceptible to temperatures below −8 to −10°C. You may also choose to protect it in winter or shelter it from frosts during the colder months. It grows in well-drained soil, ideally in full sun, but it can also be planted in partial shade. It tolerates drought and appreciates generous watering when it flowers.

In a garden, have fun pairing it with other bushes such as Viburnum tinus – Laurustinus or Pittosporum tobira to create a backdrop of an evergreen border or a hedge of shrubs, which will preserve your privacy in the garden or on a terrace.

Oleander 'Soleil Levant' - Nerium oleander

Oleander ‘Soleil Levant’ – Nerium oleander is a lush, compact bush. It can reach a height of 1.5 metres and a width of 1 metre at maturity. It graces your garden or balcony with a generous flowering in salmon pink. Its ramified branches with dark green leaves and grey undersides bear single, slightly fragrant flowers, from June to October, provided the soil remains moist. Its evergreen habit makes it a decorative plant all year round. Easy to grow in well-drained soil, it thrives in full sun, or even in partial shade. It thrives best in mild, Mediterranean-type climates. It copes well with drought, though a generous watering during flowering is advisable. Its main drawback is its hardiness, as it cannot tolerate frost below about -8 to -10°C.

With its small size, you can use it to create medium-sized hedges or grow it in a pot. For a Mediterranean feel, you can pair it with a small olive tree and lavender.

Double-flowered oleander 'Roseum Plenum' – Nerium oleander

The Oleander ‘Roseum Plenum’ – Nerium oleander is a Mediterranean bush offering numerous benefits. Floriferous, it produces large, very double flowers in an intense pink with an apricot throat. They measure 6 cm in diameter and exude a delicious fragrance. The evergreen foliage comprises long, dark green leaves, with greygreys on the reverse. This handsome shrub flowers from June to September. It can reach a height of 3 metres and a width of 2.5 metres. It has a bushy, ramified habit from the base. Easy to grow in mild climates, it prefers well-drained soil. Water well during the flowering period. It is frost-prone and dislikes temperatures below -8 to -10°C. In regions with cold winters, protection or shelter is advisable. It tolerates full sun or partial shade.

This oleander can be paired with other pink oleanders with single flowers in different colours: white, for example Oleander ‘Sister Agnes’ – Nerium oleander or yellow, such as Oleander ‘Simple Yellow’ – Nerium oleander.

Oleander 'Variegata' - Nerium oleander

With its distinctive bluish-green foliage variegated with yellow and its large semi-double flowers in a rich pink, the Oleander ‘Variegata’ – Nerium oleander will enchant your garden or terrace. Its evergreen foliage brightens your space year-round, even in winter when most plants disappear. Its lightly scented flowering is well established, with 6 cm in diameter flowers and lasts from June to September. It attracts pollinators. Its bushy, upright and slightly rounded silhouette reaches a height of 3 metres with a 2.5 metre spread. Floriferous and easy to grow in mild climates, it requires well-drained soil and tolerates sea spray as well as drought. However, it should be well watered during the flowering period to ensure it blooms to its maximum. This Mediterranean shrub is frost-sensitive, especially during its early years, and can adapt to brief frost periods around -8 to -10°C when mature.

Install this oleander in a small garden, a shrub or flower bed, or in a large pot on a balcony. Pair it with other shrubs such as Mexican orange blossom, a lemon tree or myrtles to create a Mediterranean atmosphere. You can also pair it with other oleanders to form a flowering border or hedge. Another option: prune it to give it the shape of a small tree.
