At first, I thought it was a wild plant sown by a bird (viticella), with large leaves and tiny flower buds! It looks less ugly now, but doesn't resemble your photo. Its tiny flowers came in small white clusters with a bit of blue, not really what I expect from a clematis, but I'll let it live, maybe it will be more beautiful next year! I think it's 'jouiniana'?

Planting and care

In a sunny location, shade the base of your plant with a ground cover plant or a perennial geranium. Clematis plants like to have their roots kept cool. Plant your young plant by covering the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, in soil that has been worked to a depth of 20 cm (8in) and enriched with good compost. During the first few weeks, water generously and regularly. Clematis plants can cling on their own thanks to their tendrils. To encourage their growth, provide them with a trellis or let them dress the trunk of a tree by placing a wire mesh. Clematis plants also like to grow freely on neighboring plants. We advise against overwatering, as stagnant water can cause fungus at the base of the clematis plants.
