De Pypere 5-tine Galvanised Broadfork
De Pypere 5-tine Galvanised Broadfork
I wanted a tool that would be suitable for my height (1m58), my stiff and painful right shoulder, and my tendency to get tired easily. Bingo! Everything is great, I can work my soil without any problems. Of course, this tool (which seems very sturdy) can only be used in soil that has already been worked in previous years. Don't try to use it in very rocky soil, but that goes without saying... Very good telephone reception and tailored advice. Tool received within a few days. I highly recommend it without any reservations.

The De Pypere 5-tine galvanised broadfork emphasises robustness. Its role is to loosen soil without turning it over, which preserves its structure and biological balance. This model is suitable for working with both soft and light soils, as well as heavy, clayey, and compact ones.
A classic garden fork is designed to deeply loosen and crumble soil. It is ideal for working with clayey or heavy and compact soils. This new De Pypere model benefits from a galvanised steel structure, a process that consists of covering the metal with a layer of zinc, which prevents corrosion of the steel. Its 5 tines that go through the crossbar are welded on both sides of this large square tube-shaped bar. The effectiveness of its head is ensured by the presence of 5 bevelled steel tines, including 2 shorter ones to crumble the soil more easily. A foot support area and a single-piece handle, similar to that of a lawnmower, ensure a good grip. This broadfork offers great comfort of use, allowing the gardener to work standing up while limiting effort: the work is done backwards, by sliding the tool on the ground.
This broadfork loosens soil to a depth of about 20cm (8in) by penetrating with its robust and sharp teeth. Unlike a spade or tiller, this garden tool does not mix the different layers of the soil, does not disturb the microbial life, and does not cut earthworms, which are essential for the health and fertility of the soil. The layer that is found on the surface of the soil is rich in humus, composed of decomposing plant matter, which is very nutritious for plants. The invertebrates, insects, bacteria, and fungi that are involved in this process require oxygen, and they suffocate when the soil is turned over, while the deeper, poorer layer ends up on the surface. Use this fork to prepare soil before sowing or planting.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
