A traditional, ultra-durable English spade equipped with a long handle made of hardwood and a thick stainless steel blade with a footrest for added comfort. This is a very beautiful tool designed for digging, working, and turning even difficult soils. Its specific "Y" handle, typical of English tools, allows for excellent grip. Like all its stainless steel tools approved by the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society), this beak is guaranteed for life by Burgon & Ball.

This classic English spade with traditional Burgon & Ball handle is ultra resistant with its large blade and long handle that will protect your back. Equipped with footholds on either side of the blade, a very hard FSC-certified wooden handle, an ergonomic "Y" wooden handle, double riveted at the base for added strength, and a large polished stainless steel spade head, it is a very resistant and high-quality garden tool that will satisfy demanding gardeners and lovers of beautiful tools. The socket that encloses the handle is extra long and fixed with two rivets, providing strength and flexibility to this key joint of the tool. The breaking point of this spade (the weight it can support before the handle breaks) has been tested at 100kg, which is 82% more than the British standard set at 55kg. Robust and ultra resistant, it will overcome your most resistant soils.

* FSC is an international ecolabel guaranteeing that the wood comes from sustainably managed forests

Dimensions of the spade head: 29 x 18cm - Handle length: 82cm (32in)

It must be acknowledged that the English have the privilege of being the reference in gardening (if not in cooking). Promesses de Fleurs has chosen the English company Burgon & Ball for the quality of its materials and its soon-to-be tricentennial steel manufacturing methods. The company has been working with steel in Sheffield since 1730, starting with a patent for solid steel sheep shears. The production of garden shears and equipment quickly surpassed that of sheep shears, but Burgon & Ball stainless steel tools are officially approved by the Royal Horticultural Society - probably the ultimate reward in the gardening industry.

The heat treatment allows the steel to have exactly the right hardness for each tool. Too hard and the metal can break or chip, not hard enough and it will bend or lose its sharpnessThe thickness of the steel used also depends on the tool. This spade requires a thicker steel than a knife, which can be made of much thinner steel. The thickness of the steel affects the weight, so it's also a balance to find, which the company Burgon & Ball with its 300 years of experience has validated to ensure that its tools are both efficient and pleasant to use.

Directions for use This classic spade, with its long handle to protect your back, its large thick blade, is an ultra-resistant tool that digs deeper than most other shovels. It is a tool designed for digging planting holes, lifting, turning, and for loosening and crumbling the soil deeply, on small surfaces. A compost (well decomposed compost, organic fertilizer, horse manure...) can be incorporated into the soil at the same time as it is turned over. The sharp spade is also used to make planting holes, neat borders, cut roots, and to pull out certain vegetable plants (leeks, potatoes, carrots, turnips). It is a tool more suitable for loose and soft soils. To maintain the beautiful appearance of your tool, we recommend cleaning it with a hard brush after each use and storing it away from moisture.
