This small polished stainless steel English hand fork by Burgon & Ball is a high-quality tool, ideal for small gardens, borders, pots or containers. It features a short handle made of durable weather-resistant wood, with a 3-pointed and sharp head that allows for easy penetration into the soil. It is made of polished stainless steel that won't rust and prevents soil from sticking to the tool. It can be used for surface soil cultivation, weeding, transplanting, and breaking up clumps. Its size and versatility make it essential for above-ground gardening. It has a particularly beautiful style and ergonomic design.

The sharp tines of this fork are made of tempered steel to withstand heavy work, while the handle is precisely forged at the perfect angle for ergonomic work and uses a different composition of steel with increased carbon content for optimal strength. The hardwood handle is FSC certified*.

* FSC is an international eco-label guaranteeing that the wood comes from sustainably managed forests

Promesses de fleurs has chosen the English company Burgon & Ball for the quality of its materials and its nearly three-century-old steel manufacturing methods. The company has been working with steel in Sheffield since 1730, starting with a patent for solid steel sheep shears. The production of garden shears and equipment quickly surpassed that of sheep shears, but Burgon & Ball stainless steel tools are officially approved by the Royal Horticultural Society - probably the ultimate accolade in the gardening industry.

The steel used for Burgon & Ball tools is carbon-infused for strength and chrome-infused to prevent rust. It is a very precise balance between chrome and carbon, different for each part of the tool. For example, the socket, which needs to be strong enough to resist bending, is made of thicker steel with a medium balance of chrome and carbon, while the blade of this flower fork, which requires significant strength and hardness to withstand bending in the soil, is made with a higher carbon content than chrome.

The heat treatment allows for the exact hardness of the steel for each tool. Too hard and the metal can break or chip, not hard enough and it will bend or lose its sharpness. The thickness of the steel used also depends on the tool. This hand fork requires a thicker steel thickness than a knife, which can be made of much thinner steel. The thickness of the steel also affects the weight, so it is a balance that Burgon & Ball, with its nearly 300 years of experience, has validated to ensure that its tools are both effective and enjoyable to use.

Directions for use The hand fork is an ideal tool for surface soil work in small garden areas. Use it to scratch and turn your soil on the surface, thus aerating the top layer. It is also used to unearth weed roots and to plant perennials and annuals in puts, or plug plants. You can also use it to plant bulbs, rhizomes, and tubers in your containers. It is also used to break up overly rooted or compacted clumps before planting them in loosened soil. To maintain the beautiful appearance of your tool, we recommend cleaning it with a hard brush after each use and storing it away from moisture using the sturdy leather cord inserted in the handle, which allows the fork to be hung up when not in use.
