Very pleasant in the garden, Achilleas bloom cheerfully in flat umbels of various colours. The word that best characterises them is simplicity: in appearance, cultivation, and maintenance. Generosity too, as they flower for a long time, at least 2 to 3 months, spanning two seasons. In full sun or partial shade and in well-drained soil, they withstand the onslaught of heat and drought.
Discover our favourite varieties among the many species and cultivars in our catalogue. Feel free to mix them, as Achilleas look lovely in groups and many of their colours complement each other beautifully, creating a cheerful palette.

Achillea millefolium 'Peachy Seduction'
Issue of the Seduction series, Achillea millefolium ‘Peachy Seduction’ offers, as its name suggests, flowers of a lovely peach pink, intense salmon pink when they open, which then evolve into a very soft orange pink. They fade to a rosy cream after a very long flowering period, lasting from June to October. Its flattened and slightly domed corymbs, measuring 7 cm in diameter, rise well above the foliage at a height of 60-70 cm, with a spread of at least 50 cm.
To complement this palette of salmon pink and cream, plant alongside it some Avens with lovely orange hues like Geum ‘Mai Tai’, a white Echinacea with a green centre like Echinacea purpurea ‘Virgin’, a blue Thistle, for example Eryngium ‘Jos Eijking’, as well as Sedums with purple foliage.

Achillea ptarmica 'Snowball'
Here is a white variety with lovely double flowers: Achillea ptarmica ‘Boule de Neige’ is a beautiful, vigorous, and floriferous Yarrow. As if covered in snowflakes, it bursts into numerous white pom-poms in summer, from July to September. With its fine dark green foliage, the plant reaches 60 cm in height and 40 cm in width. Unlike Achillea millefolium, Yarrow prefers cool to moist, non-calcareous soils.
Accompany this white yarrow in a fresh soil mass or near water features with perennials that enjoy the same conditions. Consider the elegant Filipendulas, Veronicastrums, Ferns, and Brunneras.

Achillea millefolium 'Hannelore Pahl'
Softness and pastels for Achillea millefolium ‘Hannelore Pahl’, which blooms in apricot umbels and fades to straw yellow. In summer, from July to September, its corymbs unfold in a shimmering and gentle gradation. It forms a tall clump of 80 cm in flower, with a spread of 60 cm. Its grey-green, matte foliage does not exceed 20 cm in height.
In a bright border, pair it with blue Asters and Lavenders. Add Carex comans ‘Bronze Form’ and orange Kniphofias. Dot with intense blue from Nigella ‘Midnight Blue’ seeds. This will create a beautiful contrast of colours, as blue and orange are complementary on the colour wheel, enhancing each other.

Achillea millefolium 'Walter Funcke'
Another Yarrow in vibrant orange tones, this time the Achillea millefolium ‘Walter Funcke’ offers a festival of warm hues. It evolves gradually during its flowering from orange to reddish-orange, tinged with coral, then accented by brick red, and finally softening to peachy yellow to cream. Its corymbs, measuring 7 cm in diameter, are held high on a plant that reaches 60 cm in height and 40 cm in width, blooming from June to October, enhanced by grey-green foliage.
Such a variety of colours in a single plant inspires combinations! Use this yarrow in rockeries, as a border in a naturalistic bed, alongside Dahlias, bulbs of Allium sphaerocephalon, clumps with white spikes of Pennisetum orientale ‘Tall Tails’, and the lovely Scabiosa caucasica ‘Perfecta’.

Achillea filipendulina 'Cloth of Gold'
Remarkable, Achillea filipendulina ‘Cloth of Gold’ is for its size: 1.20 m in height when in flower. It is also notable for its majestic appearance with its umbels held high above the foliage. Its colour is striking: a golden yellow, shining in the sun, just like its green-grey foliage that glimmers with silver. This yellow yarrow blooms from July to September. Its clump is compact, measuring no more than 50 to 60 cm in spread, making its footprint reasonable given its height.
Pair this tall specimen with the high spikes of a Stipa gigantea, an Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus, and a tall Agastache ‘Serpentine’ that reaches 1.5 m in height.
