It's been 4 years since the plant was installed. The beginnings were tough due to lack of watering follow-up, but now the plant has grown well and blooms every spring-summer, handling drought much better. It just needs a chance and more regular watering, especially when planted in spring in the South. Garden in central Var, loamy and limestone soil.

Description

The Italian Everlasting or Helichrysum italicum is a Mediterranean perennial shrub with golden yellow flowering and beautiful, evergreen grey foliage, with a very elongated shape similar to that of lavender.

It is particularly known for its very intense curry scent, noticeable from several metres away. Essential oils can be extracted from it.

You can use it to flavour your dishes by consuming its foliage. It grows well in pots and pleasantly perfumes a terrace.

It can be preserved for a very long time as dried bouquets, hence its nickname "everlasting". Its small golden yellow flowers give it its scientific name, derived from Greek: golden sun.
