Hardy and robust perennial, highly resistant to heat, Yarrow is invaluable in the garden. In well-drained soil, it is very easy to grow, in full sun or partial shade. Its light and delicate foliage, along with its unpretentious umbels, make it a great companion for naturalistic and rustic gardens, as well as for English borders and flower gardens. Yarrow comes in yellow, white, pink, orange, and red hues. Many varieties feature colours that evolve throughout the flowering period into lovely gradients, making them delightful to combine in the garden. Pink varieties often showcase these nuanced and changing colours.

Achillea millefolium 'Wonderful Wampee'

Achillea millefolium ‘Wonderful Wampee’ offers a soft colour palette: its corymbs alternate between a rich pink and a soft, faded pink from the appearance of the flowers until they fade. Its head clusters form flat and slightly domed umbels measuring 10 cm in diameter. Its abundant foliage is grey-green, rising to 20 cm, while the flowering plant reaches a height of 60 cm with a minimum spread of 50 cm and a compact habit. It blooms for a long time, from June to October.

Pair this pink achillea with other flowers in pastel shades such as mallows and lupins. Brighten the arrangement with some bolder touches using Alliums and scabious, for example.

Achillea sibirica var. camtschatica 'Love Parade'

Issue from species sibirica, the Achillea sibirica var. camtschatica ‘Love Parade’ is a bundle of cuteness, with its multiple daisy-like heads in candy pink with pale yellow centres. It differs from the type species by its colour, pink rather than white, but it fades to white. It offers foliage different from that of common Yarrow: it is evergreen, satin, dark green, and shiny with silver highlights. It blooms from June to September, reaching a height of 60 cm and a width of 50 cm at ripeness. The stems bearing the corymbs can reach 75 cm in height.

Plant it in full sun with simple, country-style perennials: Oriental Poppies in soft colours, Globe Thistle, Echinops ritro, perennial Sweet Peas, Lathyrus latifolius, and clumps of Fennel, Foeniculum vulgare.

Achillea millefolium 'Apricot Delight' (Tutti frutti)

Achillea millefolium ‘Apricot Delight’ is part of the Tutti Frutti series, an English selection of Achillea millefolium with fruity colours, homogeneous and long-lasting flowering, and a compact habit. Its colour evolves during its flowering period into shades of pink, apricot, and rose-red. It reaches a height of 60 cm in flower and 50 cm in width at maturity, and can spread quietly thanks to its stolons. It blooms continuously from June to September.

Enjoy the changing colours of this achillea by pairing it with flowers of a similar tone: apricot with Hemerocallis or a Geum ‘Mai Tai’; rose-red with Carnations, Dianthus. Add some medium-sized grasses like Pennisetums.

Achillea millefolium 'Wesersandstein'

Another lovely variety with changing colours, the Achillea millefolium ‘Wesersandstein’ opens its umbels in salmon pink and then evolves to a coppery sand. What a lovely display! It blooms tirelessly from June to October. Vigorous and well-ramified, it is particularly tall, reaching 80 cm in height when in flower and spreading to 60 cm. Its feathery foliage is dark green.

Take advantage of its tones to pair it with a zesty Kniphofia, Verbena bonariensis, an Agastache ‘Kudos Ambrosia’, and salmon pink Echinaceas.

Achillea millefolium 'Excel'

On continues the variations on the same theme with Achillea millefolium ‘Excel’, which delights us with multiple shades: bright pink, mauve pink, soft pink, as the days go by. Its vibrant green foliage highlights the lovely nuances of this excellent variety. Compact, its foliage does not exceed 20 cm while its flowering reaches a height of 60 cm and a minimum width of 50 cm. Like its counterparts, it blooms for a long time: from June to September.

In borders or in groups, plant it alongside tall verticals like Foxgloves, treat yourself to a beautiful Oriental Poppy ‘Patty’s Plum’, and the lovely Lavender Asters.

Achillea millefolium 'Salmon Beauty'

In a lovely range of warmer tones, the Achillea millefolium ‘Lachsschönheit’ is a delightful variety that exudes softness. Its umbels fluctuate between coral pink, salmon, and cream yellow, throughout its flowering period from July to September. With an upright tuft, its aromatic leaves are a light grey-green. The plant has a carpet-like form, reaching 70 cm in height and 60 cm in width.

Plant it in a flowering bed alongside a lavender blue aster for a pleasing pastel combination with the coral pink-salmon, the Aster cordifolius ‘Little Carlow’. Add a plant with purple foliage like the Sedum ‘Purple Emperor’ and a touch of blue-violet with the vertical spikes of the Agastache ‘Black Adder’, which contrasts in shape with the corymbs of the Achillea.

Achillea millefolium 'Jacqueline'

Let’s finish with a variety in a soft pink hue that is unambiguous and consistent: Achillea millefolium ‘Jacqueline’. Its matte silver-green foliage highlights its delicate pink corymbs. A reliable and robust cultivar, it reaches 60 to 80 cm in height when in bloom, 20 cm for the foliage, and spreads at least 50 cm. It flowers from June to September in a slightly bluish pastel pink with its 7 cm flat and slightly domed umbels.

Plant it in rockeries, as groundcover, or on a slope. Pair it with lovely romantic bushes: Deutzia, Roses, and floriferous perennials like Geraniums.
