Toltex tree tie for staking trees

The Toltex tree tie is a high-performance, robust and tree-friendly tying link. It is made of an elastomer that is both very flexible and highly resistant to UV and cold, and is simply and quickly fixed by twisting the very strong wires *, forming a loop between the tree trunk and its support to avoid damaging its bark. Its surface is grooved, allowing rainwater to drain along the trunk and compress as the trunk grows thicker. Its length allows for staking of larger plants. This model is made in France.

Staking trees is essential when they are newly planted in exposed windy areas and/or loose sandy or loamy soils. Firstly, because their root system is not yet sufficiently developed to ensure proper anchoring in the soil, and secondly, because the above-ground vegetation, often disproportionate to the root system, offers significant wind resistance. The stake is generally installed at the time of planting, about 20 cm (8in) from the trunk, facing the prevailing wind. The grooved ties remain in place for a minimum of 2 or 3 years, a necessary period for the consolidation of the root layer. It is important to regularly check that they do not strangle the trunk. Loosen them if possible to adjust their size, or replace them with wider ties.
