Description

Perennial plants, highly valued in gardens, columbines require a light, humus-rich soil that is consistently moist, where they colonize the area with their spontaneous self seeding. They can tolerate heavy soils, but do not live for very long in them. 

Lovely glaucous foliage, curious pendulous greenish flowers with brown-purple corollas, slightly scented. Highly resistant to cold. These plants prefer the moist and well-drained soil of a shaded rockery.

Planting and care

l4Aquilegia viridiflora var. atropurpurea se plante au printemps ou au début de l’automne, au soleil doux ou à mi-ombre claire. Une terre légère, humifère, fraîche mais drainée lui convient mieux qu’un sol lourd, compact ou gorgé d’eau en hiver. Un peu de compost mûr aide la reprise dans les terres pauvres, sans transformer le sol en terreau humide. Arrosez régulièrement les premières semaines, puis de temps en temps en période sèche.  Les semis peuvent ne pas être fidèles à la plante mère si d’autres ancolies fleurissent à proximité. Le feuillage abîmé se rabat après la floraison ou en fin d’été.  En sol drainé, cette ancolie supporte -15 °C, et souvent davantage.
