Description

Euphorbia Shades in Pink® is a light and airy annual, perfect for enhancing floral arrangements in planters, sunny border edges, or hanging baskets. Its delicate flowers, resembling a cloud in shades of pink, create a stunning display in the garden or on the balcony for several weeks. It is very easy to care for and blooms tirelessly throughout the growing season, regardless of weather conditions. Place it anywhere—in pots, planters, hanging baskets, or directly in the ground—paired with your prettiest flowers.

Belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, Euphorbia Shades in Pink® is a compact cultivar derived from various species, including Euphorbia hypericifolia (or Chamesyce hypericifolia), a tender species native to Colombian forests. Introduced by Proven Winners, this selection combines hardiness and beauty. The plant reaches around 30 cm in height and width, making it ideal for small spaces or container arrangements. Its habit is dense and rounded, with slender, flexible stems. Its leaves are deep green with fine speckles and contrast beautifully with the shifting hues of its flowers. These flowers open almost white, transition to a soft pink, then deepen to cherry red. They bloom profusely, small and delicate, throughout spring and early summer, from March-April to June-July, depending on the climate. Sheltered from frost, its foliage remains attractive year-round. Note that all euphorbias contain an irritating latex in their tissues, clearly visible when stems are cut.

Position Euphorbia 'Shades in Pink' in large flowering planters alongside calibrachoas or mini petunias, pelargoniums, heliotropic plants, begonias, or even Russelia. This airy plant suits any creative setting, in the garden, on a terrace, or on a balcony. It adds lightness and structure to summer displays and floral borders. Paired with bushy sages or ground-cover roses, it creates harmonious, charming scenes. Use it in groups in front of decorative shrub hedges, between rocks in a rockery, or in a mixed border with grasses or asters. You can also plant it in a large urn to elevate a contemporary-style space.

Planting and care

Plant Euphorbia 'Shades in Pink' in well-drained soil that remains moist in summer, in a sunny, partially shaded, or even shaded location. A good horticultural compost will do the trick. Monitor watering in summer (without excess) and regularly feed with flowering plant fertiliser. Pruning is unnecessary.

The limited hardiness (-1°C) of this young plant is not a deal-breaker: it can easily be overwintered in a bright, minimally heated conservatory by significantly reducing watering (2 to 3 times per month) to allow it to rest. Before bringing it back out in spring, give it a light prune. Growth resumes as soon as temperatures reach or exceed 14°C. Repot or apply a slow-release fertiliser and resume watering. This variety will truly shine when planted in a pot of at least 5 litres.
