They are small upon delivery, but currently they are thriving quite normally and I am expecting a beautiful flowering.

Description

The Calibrachoa 'Chamaeleon Blueberry Scone' is a brand new variety of 'Chamaeleon' Mini-Petunia that will undoubtedly create a fantastic impact in hanging baskets. This magical plant forms a dome covered with funnel-shaped flowers with changing colours, combining shades of blue, purple and yellow, depending on temperature and brightness. Its dense and semi-trailing habit, early and prolonged flowering, and ease of cultivation make this annual plant a fabulous novelty for ornating terraces or balconies throughout the summer. It thrives in full sun or partial shade, in light, fertile, and not too dry soil.

Calibrachoa, sometimes called Million Bells, are frost-tender perennial plants often grown as annuals. Very similar to petunias, they differ in the number of chromosomes that make up their genetic heritage and some morphological characteristics: their flowers are smaller, their growth habit is shrubby or herbaceous with woody stems, their development is less significant, and they tolerate drought better. The hybrids that make up this group all belong to the solanaceae family (like tomatoes) and probably descend from an Argentinian species called Petunia integrifolia. The 'Chameleon' series is a first in terms of horticultural selection for Calibrachoas: as the name suggests, the plants offer medium-sized flowers, single or double, with changing tones, as well as excellent floribundity and a compact, neat appearance.

The 'Chameleon Blueberry Scone' variety quickly forms a dense mound that is wider than it is tall, measuring 25 to 30 cm (10 in-1 ft) in height and 35 to 40 cm (1 ft 2"-1 ft 4") in diameter. Its velvety and branched stems are densely covered with small lanceolate, evergreen, velvety, slightly sticky leaves of a medium green colour. The tireless flowering takes place from June until at least September. Numerous funnel-shaped flowers are born in the axils of the leaves; they are 4 to 5 cm (1.6-2 in) wide, alternately speckled and veined with different soft shades of blue, purple, and yellow, nicely highlighted by a violet-purple ring around their throat. Unlike Petunias, these Calibrachoas do not need to be pruned during the season.

The Calibrachoa Chameleon 'Blueberry Scone' is ideal in hanging baskets, planters, or pots, but its good tolerance of heat and drought also allows it to be used in open ground, where it forms very pretty borders and spots of intense colour in flowerbeds. It can be planted alone or accompanied by 2 or 3 other varieties with pure colours (pink, yellow or orange, white or purple), in troughs, flower pots, or planters on terraces, balconies, or patios. They are also good plants for the conservatory. Their combination with Euphorbia Diamond Frost, Lobularia Snow Princess, Verbenas, Surfinia Petunias, double Bacopas, and Nemesias is stunning. The choice is vast and allows for imagination and the tastes of every gardener, even inexperienced ones.

Please note: our young plants in mini-pots are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transfer and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° (>57.2 F) for a few weeks before planting outdoors once the risk of frosts has definitively passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your Calibrachoa Chameleon Blueberry Scone in the ground or in pots. If you wish to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Calibrachoas 'Chamaeleon' will flower from June to September-October. Plant your Calibrachoas in a sunny location or in partial shade in a hot climate, protected from the wind. They need a light and humus-rich, but above all, well-drained soil. Do not over-water them at the beginning of the growing season as they are sensitive to excessive moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser for Surfinias once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking good and extend the flowering period.
