The Dipladenia or Mandevilla Diamantina Jade Pink is distinguished by its slightly drooping bushy habit, which works wonders in planters and hanging baskets. This small climbing plant, very compact, will also seduce with its large star-shaped flowers in bright pink veined with darker shades, of rare and dynamic colour. These flowers bloom on beautiful dark green foliage from June until the first frost. The Diamantina series Dipladenia are generous plants but sensitive to cold; they will easily survive the winter behind a glass window, in a bright conservatory or a slightly heated greenhouse, and will keep you company for many years.
The Mandevilla, named in honor of the diplomat and gardener Henry Mandeville, are fast-growing climbing plants, mostly native to the tropical forests of the Serra de Orgaos, near Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Growing at high altitudes, these tropical plants thrive in temperate climates, spared from frosts, in partial shade or dappled light in summer. In the 1970s Robert Lannes, a French horticulturist based in Tarn et Garonne, was the first to become interested in hybridizing these plants with their immense potential. Years of research and selection have resulted in particularly floriferous varieties, more compact, with a variety of colors, easy to grow for amateur gardeners.
The Diamantina series, derived among others from the Mandevilla sanderi, produces plants with a compact habit well suited for pot cultivation and stands out for its wide range of colors, including some unprecedented shades such as the Jade Pink with its bright pink veined with dark pink, and yellow-orange heart.
'Diamantina Jade Pink' has a bushy, slightly drooping and compact habit. Its short, woody, twining stems hang softly. It will reach an average size of 40cm (15.7 in) in all directions, with rapid growth. Its beautiful large flowers, 6 cm (2.4 in) in diameter, are composed of 5 large slightly pointed lobes that overlap like the blades of a propeller. Grouped in small clusters, they bloom from May until the frost, continuously. The persistent and leathery foliage consists of small entire leaves, dark green, arranged in an opposing pattern. The thick and leathery lamina, oval to elliptical in shape, measures 5 to 6 cm (2.4 in) long and has a shiny upper surface. This plant has both fine roots and large tuberous roots, veritable storage organs containing starch and water that allow the plant to withstand drought quite well.
Mandevilla is often used for terrace, balcony or patio decoration, to cover a pergola or trellis, alone or in a mix of colors. This Jade Pink Diamantina variety, heat resistant, with its pretty drooping habit, will be better suited for a large flowering pot placed in isolation, a hanging basket or a planter, on a sunny terrace or balcony. It can be combined, for example, with the Jade Scarlet variety, a dark blue Plumbago capensis, black-eyed susans and passionflowers. Â
Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, frame) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before planting outside once all risk of frost has passed.

Botanical data
Plant your Dipladenia Diamantina Jade White in the ground after the last frosts. The ideal location is a sunny spot with some shade during the hottest part of the day in summer. Plant them in a soil enriched with compost and coarse sand. You can also plant them in pots placed in a protected area, which you can bring out in good weather. Dipladenia plants require a well-drained soil that is somewhat dry but not necessarily very rich, to avoid favouring foliage production over flowering. Water moderately. In pots, regular watering is necessary in summer, as well as a fertiliser for flowering plants. Allow the soil to dry between waterings. You can preserve your Dipladenia plants by bringing them indoors under a veranda or a cold greenhouse in winter. They do not tolerate temperatures below 5°.
Growing them in open ground throughout the year is only possible in regions completely unaffected by frost.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
