Description

Petunia Capella Baby Pink is part of a series of hybrids characterised by their compact habit, exceptional floribundity, large flowers in vibrant colours, and heat tolerance. This adorable Baby Pink variety produces large single flowers in a delicate baby pink shade, highlighted by a pale green and cream throat. They continuously bloom on a tidy mound from May to June until late in the season. This annual plant has a stunning effect in hanging baskets, containers, and flower beds. It is easy to grow in sunny, fertile, light, and moist soil.

Hybrid petunias are all derived from several plants native to the warm regions of South America. The 'Capella Baby Pink' Petunia belongs to the Solanaceae family, closely related to ornamental tobacco and its foliage also contains alkaloids. This variety quickly forms a compact, slightly trailing ball, reaching approximately 20 cm (8in) high and 30 cm (12in) wide. The plant flowers from May to October provided it is well-watered and regularly fed. Its funnel-shaped flowers are large and tightly packed on dense foliage. The pale pink corolla gradually fades over time, with the throat changing from pale green to cream-yellow. The hairy, dark green leaves have entire edges and are vigorous and healthy.

No other annual flowering plant has undergone such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive and petunias compete with geraniums in terms of splendour and length of flowering, as demonstrated by this 'Capella Baby Pink' variety. plant it in large pots or hanging baskets for a stunning display. It can also be planted in flower beds to accentuate borders of grey-foliaged plants such as ceraistes, cineraria maritima, or artemisias.

Note: Please be aware that plug plants are products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your Capella Baby Pink petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed, they will tolerate a little late frost. In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Petunias will flower from June to October. Plant them in a sunny or partially shaded position sheltered from the wind. They need light and humus-rich, well-draining soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season, as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. They are floriferous and fast-growing, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking good and prolong flowering.
