Petunia Surfinia Heavenly Blue
The plant was very well packaged, but they should have been watered before they were shipped. I believe they stayed in the box for 3 days during the hot weather (from 12 to 15/04/24)… A lack of water with the plug plants is unforgivable. The young plants were pendulous, I planted them and watered them well. I will inform you if there are any issues with their recovery.

The Petunia Surfinia 'Heavenly Blue' produces flowers of a heavenly blue colour, a rare colour in the garden that is highly appreciated by professional and amateur gardeners. The exceptional colour of this flowering plant is not its only quality. The plant combines vigorous growth, a unique habit, both compact, upright, and trailing, and excellent resistance to adverse weather conditions. Its unparalleled floribundity and beautiful heat resistance make it naturally suitable for hanging baskets. A generous annual plant, stunning and easy to grow, almost maintenance-free!
Petunia belongs to the Solanaceae family; it is closely related to ornamental tobacco, for example, and its foliage also contains alkaloids. These annual, biennial or frost-tender perennial plants are mostly grown as annuals and all originate from the warm regions of South America. Petunia Surfinia® is a relatively recent sterile hybrid of petunia, with a trailing habit rather than an upright one, making it a magnificent plant for hanging baskets. It was created in Japan and is also distinguished by its beautiful and very long flowering period.
Petunia surfinia 'Heavenly Blue' forms a vigorous rounded, dense, bushy, and trailing clump, with trailing and fuzzy stems that cascade down 60 cm. The plant flowers from May-June to October, provided it is regularly supplied with water and fertiliser. Its cup-shaped flowers are of a good size, initially slightly tinged with mauve when they first open and then a true light blue colour, centred on a darker throat. They are tightly packed together on a well-furnished foliage. The hairy leaves are ovate and pointed, with entire margins and a dark green colour, vigorous and healthy. This variety exhibits an exceptional habit and requires very little maintenance, as its sterile flowers easily drop off by themselves.
No other flowering annual plant has undergone such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive, as petunias compete with pelargoniums in terms of splendour and length of flowering, as demonstrated by this variety of Surfinia 'Heavenly Blue', a little piece of sky to hang everywhere on the terrace or balcony. Plant it in large pots or hanging baskets, creating a perfect contrast with Surfinia petunia varieties 'Deep Red' or 'Purple'. You can also plant it in borders, to punctuate gray-foliaged plants such as ceraistes, cineraria maritima, or artemisias. If you want to stand out, plant several plants to create an original ground cover at the base of plants such as Nepeta faassenii or annual poppies in pastel colors.
Green plants measuring 4 to 8cm (3.1 in) in trays of 5 small plugs with a diameter of 2.8 cm (0.8 in) and a height of 4 cm (1.6 in), labelled separately. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the ground.
Note: Please be aware that our young plants in plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Botanical data
You can plant your petunias in the ground or in pots. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (Surfinia petunias can tolerate a late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in pots in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-rich but mainly well-drained soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser for surfinias once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking good and extend the flowering period.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
