The 'La Sevillana' Rose has been the best-selling rose in Europe since its creation in 1978 by Meilland. It is an exceptionally floriferous and resistant variety, forming a very bushy and always flowering bush, even in the heart of winter in Mediterranean climates. Its semi-double roses are a brilliant vermilion red, beautifully highlighted by a beautiful bronze-green foliage, naturally free from diseases, parasites, and able to withstand pollution. All its qualities make it the ideal rose for creating a flowering hedge or large beds. As it maintains its dense habit over time it is also very beautiful when planted alone in a small garden. A variety that requires little maintenance, essential in an ecological garden and accessible to all!
The flowers of the Rosa x polyantha 'La Sevillana' come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid derived from Rosa multiflora and Rosa chinensis. 'La Sevillana' is part of the Meillandecor landscape roses series, offering plants with exceptional natural resistance to diseases and parasites, with an almost permanent decorative effect and dense vegetation, an abundant and long-lasting flowering that continues until the first frosts. 'La Sevillana' has a very bushy habit that is as wide as it is tall. It will reach about 1m 10cm (3ft 4in) in all directions in a few years. The semi-double flowers, 6cm (2in) in diameter, formed by 8 to 15 petals, have a natural appearance and a slight fragrance. Their colour is a true vermilion, perfectly uniform, a vibrant shade under the sun, intermediate between red and orange. They bloom in large numbers in wide pyramidal clusters from June to October-November, as long as there is no frost. This vigorous and perfectly healthy variety has received the prestigious German A.D.R* label. It develops deciduous, glossy, bronze-green foliage.
Adopting this 'La Sevillana' rose enables an ecological approach, where phytosanitary treatments are banned, while benefiting from a plant with attractive aesthetics. 'La Sevillana' adapts to all soils that are not too dry and all climates, allowing it to be welcomed without reservation from the north to the south of our region, even in medium mountains. It can be planted in groups of 3, arranged in a triangle, or alone on a lawn. It will work wonders when planted en masse in a hedge, to border a pathway or the entrance of the garden. It also has its place in a large rose bed, accompanied for example by shrubs with blue flowers (evergreen Ceanothus, Vitex, buddleias)
* The German ADR label rewards roses that are naturally resistant to diseases, parasites, and pollution every year. For this, the varieties are tested without any phytosanitary treatment, in 11 test stations throughout Germany and for 3 years.

Botanical data
Rose bushes prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day), but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. Rose bushes appreciate loose, permeable soil that is rich in humus. They prefer slightly acidic soil, but will adapt in any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose bush, work the soil to a depth of 25 cubic cm, crumble the soil well and place a bottom amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, position your plant without its pot and cover the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, then fill in and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Also, remember to provide your rose bush with special rose fertiliser to stimulate flowering.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
