Description

The 'Gilles de Brissac' Rose Bush combines the charm of old roses with the floribundity and robust qualities of modern roses. Winner of several awards, particularly for its fragrance and disease resistance, this variety produces magnificent bouquets of large, delicate cup-shaped roses in a tender and luminous pink, capturing the powerful scent of old roses in their petals. Whether on a garden path, near a terrace, or on a vase, you will enjoy their fragrance for a long time. A reliable choice for the garden!

The 'Gilles de Brissac' Dorella Rose, registered by rose breeder Dorieux in 2013, has received numerous awards in international competitions, including the Gold Medal in Monaco in 2014, the Public Prize and Children's Prize for its fragrance at Bagatelle in 2012, and the Silver Medal in Rome in 2012. It inherited from its parent 'Annapurna' its intoxicating fragrance with notes of old roses, apples, and cloves. This hybrid tea rose is classified as a Floribunda, with flowers grouped in corymbs or small bouquets.

The plant forms a tall, ramified bush with vigorous and rapid growth. It will reach approximately 90 cm (35in) in height and 70 cm (28in) in width. From May-June until late in the season, on foliage composed of large, dark green leaflets, small bouquets of roses with a diameter of 12 cm (5in) bloom. They consist of 40 petals arranged in a fairly loose cup shape, unfolding informally. Their colour is light and fresh pink, and their fragrance is pronounced. This rose bush has excellent disease resistance. This deciduous shrub is very hardy and loses its leaves in autumn. It will thrive in rich, deep soil that remains fresh in summer.

This modern 'Gilles de Brissac' rose, with its extraordinary fragrance and resolutely romantic style, will find its place in the garden in a large rose bed, at the front of a shrub bed, or as a standalone feature in a well-maintained small garden. The tender colour of its flowers easily blends with all pastel blooms, as well as the range of blues, purples, and violets. Consider planting it near easy-to-grow plants such as Chinese peonies, perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), campanulas (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, perennial salvias, foxgloves... Dwarf buddleias also make lovely companions for bush roses. Its flowers can be used to create romantic bouquets that delicately perfume the home.

Planting and care

Planting your rose requires some preparation. Begin by working the soil to a depth of 25 cubic cm and adding a base amendment like blood, fish, and bone to the bottom of the planting hole. Remove the plant from its pot and position it by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Refill the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. It's essential to water the rose regularly for a few weeks during dry weather to help the roots grow. Use a special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Choose a sunny location or partial shade to plant your rose in hot regions.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
