I planted this 'Chandos Beauty' rose (Sweet Love) with bare roots a few years ago (see my comment below). It initially took well and offered a superb flowering in the first year, but started to decline from the second year onwards (many dead branches, weak shoots, few flowers, black spots). I moved it to a sunnier spot in May this year, where it bloomed but showed little growth. Therefore, I decided to remove it from the ground, placed it in a sheltered pot, and replanted a new rose in its place, this time in a pot, while replacing the soil over a 40cm width and depth. This isn't the first time that bare root roses have disappointed me and deteriorated quite quickly after a few years.

The 'Sweet Love' or 'Harmisty' Rosebush is a wonderful variety. It is appreciated for the sensual beauty of its large campanulate cream-pink flowers and its floribundus nature, strong growth and resistance to diseases. It is an exceptional bouquet flower, and the garden in large rosebush beds will bloom from late spring to early autumn.
The 'Sweet Love' Rosebush, registered by English rose breeder Harkness in 2005, belongs to the modern hybrid tea roses, also known as hybrid teas. This excellent variety has won numerous awards in international competitions for its fragrance, floribundity and natural disease resistance: Fragrance Award in Glasgow 2007, Certificate of Merit in Glasgow 2007, Gold Medal in Great Britain 2007, Fragrance Award in Baden-Baden 2011, Gold Medal in Baden-Baden 2011.Â
The plant forms a small, bushy, semi-upright habit with vigorous and rapid growth. It reaches approximately 90 cm (35in) in height and 60 cm (24in) in width. From May-June until late in the season, on lush and well-furnished foliage, dark green and shiny, very beautiful cone-shaped roses, 10 to 11 cm (4in) wide, with 80 petals, solitary, carried by long, sturdy, thorny stems, bloom. They are pearly cream in colour, with delightful salmon reflections at the base of the petals and a centre of flesh pink colour. The fragrance is pronounced and elegant. The foliage resists diseases well and perfectly enhances the delicate colour of the roses. A hardy variety.
This modern 'Sweet Love' rose, with its fragrance, the beauty of its flowers and generosity, will find its place in the garden in a large rosebed or as a solitary plant in a well-maintained garden. It adapts to all soils that are not too dry and all climates, tolerating both rain and heat, which allows it to be welcomed without reservation from the north to the south of our country, even at medium altitudes. It pairs perfectly with white, orange or even mauve roses, as well as with pretty easy-to-grow perennials such as perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, snapdragons, foxgloves... Its flowers can be used to create charming bouquets that will delicately perfume the house.

Botanical data
Planting your rose requires some preparation. Begin by working the soil to a depth of 40 cubic cm and adding a base amendment like blood, fish, and bone to the bottom of the planting hole. Remove the plant from its pot and position it by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Refill the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. It's essential to water the rose regularly for a few weeks during dry weather to help the roots grow. Use a special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Choose a sunny location or partial shade to plant your rose in hot regions.
Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
