Description

This shrub has an upright growth habit and features stunning, irregular, pink, flat flower heads. The flower heads, composed of sterile and fertile flowers, are held aloft on long, slender pedicels that give the shrub a light and airy appearance. The sterile flowers are particularly eye-catching with their delicate and intricate structure. This shrub prefers to grow in cool and shaded areas, where it can thrive and produce its beautiful blooms. This shrub can be a standout feature in any garden with proper care.

Planting and care

Growing hydrangeas requires preparing the soil by working it deeply at a depth of 40 cm (15.7 in) X 40 cm (15.7 in). Use a basic fertiliser to help the young plants grow and avoid burning them. Hydrangeas prefer a sunny or semi-shady location, depending on the soil's humidity, and neutral to acidic soil. If the soil is dry, mix it with our water retainer called StockSorb and plan for a surface watering basin.

In late summer, do not cut the dry umbels as they protect the terminal shoots of the branches in winter. Instead, cut all the dry flowers at the end of February or early spring. Pot cultivation is also easy if deep enough pots are used (40 to 50 cm (15.7 to 19.7 in) deep), and the plants are watered and fertilised regularly.

When planting in pots, use a good mix of ericaceous compost soil, organic matter, and a little garden soil to make the soil less light. Plant two or three plants in a 50 cm (19.7 in) pot to create a beautiful display in the first year.

To retain the colour of white, red, and pink hydrangea varieties, use limestone-rich watering water. Blue varieties require watering with rainwater and using an alum-based hydrangea blueing agent regularly. Use hydrangea fertilisers to promote healthy growth.
