Tulipa Crème Upstar - Double late tulip

The Creme Upstar Tulip (Creme Up Star) is a peony-flowered variety with a charming pastel colouring, uncommon among tulips. Its cream-white corollas bring together various very soft tones, such as apricot pink and tender yellow, all of which intensify as flowering progresses. An ideal companion for the Upstar would be Angelique and Orange Angelique tulips, which enhance one another! Late flowering, in May-June.

The 'Creme Up Star' tulip belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, obtained in 1994 in the Netherlands, it is currently classified in the 'Double Late Tulips' group, whose main characteristic is to display very double and crumpled flowers, borne on sturdy stems. 'Creme Upstar' is stocky (40cm), and its flower is of a good size, very double and fully open. It shows excellent staying power. Its colour palette changes over the days to include cream, pale yellow, and pearl pink shades on the outside, with the inside of the corolla being tender yellow. The fragrance adds extra charm, and it is a real favourite, particularly when its buds slowly open in a vase, gradually shedding their petals in a pearly shower. Flowering begins relatively late, in May, when other tulips have long since faded.

Varied colours, soft or dazzling, opulent and simple flowers, double late tulips bring charm and romance to pots or sunny gardens, alongside the prettiest spring blooms or pastel tulips such as 'Up Star', 'Double Sugar', 'Orange Angelique' and 'Maureen Double' or dark ones like 'Queen of the Night'. Remember to consider the height and flowering period when designing your borders, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is a good idea to plant a few extra bulbs for cutting, as they last a long time in a vase, where the fragrant flowers of 'Creme Up Star' will give you great pleasure.
