Description

The bulb of the Multi-flowered Tulip 'Candy Club' produces 3 to 7 small, well-opened cup-shaped flowers, randomly striped and edged with purple-pink on a pale yellow to creamy-white background. Its main stem branches out into secondary stems, each carrying a flower, ensuring a long flowering period. It blooms relatively late, in May, towards the end of the tulip season. The overall effect is a charming bouquet, with a naive appearance, that is attractive in bouquets, borders, beds, and containers.

The Multi-flowered Tulip 'Candy Club', registered in the Netherlands in 1993, belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, multi-flowered tulips are classified in Division 5, which includes all late single tulips. These multi-flowered tulips have a branched floral stem that gives rise to several relatively small flowers, resulting in a more staggered flowering time. They bloom towards the end of the tulip season. Perched on tall stems of 45cm (18in), well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the beautiful flowers of 'Candy Club' are randomly marked, with varying degrees of intensity, with pink-red stripes or flames. Some show a fine border of the same purple-pink colour. Their centre, visible when fully open, is touched with pale yellow and punctuated with pretty black anthers. Initially in the shape of a narrow cup, they open up into wide corollas. The flowering period takes place in May, lasting 2 to 3 weeks, and beautifully concludes the tulip season.

The multi-flowered tulip 'Candy Club' finds its place in all sunny flower beds. Its charm allows for combinations with tulips in white or red tones, creating a beautiful harmony. Pair it with pink daffodils, jonquils or hyacinths, or even forget-me-nots, and you will achieve stunning scenes. It can also be planted in borders, rockeries, flower beds, as well as in pots and containers. This tulip enhances balconies and terraces beautifully. It pairs perfectly with tall perennials such as peonies, and is ideal for creating elegant bouquets. When using it in a vase, only add a small amount of water, just enough to cover the bottom! Additionally, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase each day.

Planting and care

Plant multi-flowered tulip bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-draining. Never add undecomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Candy Club' tulip will thrive in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant it in a sunny or partially shaded location. After flowering, it is best to remove the fruits to avoid depleting the plant.
