Description

The Triumph Tulip 'Armani' pays a beautiful tribute to the famous Italian designer, with its impeccably held flower, beautifully curved, in two contrasting colours. It also stands out for its excellent flower holding, both in a vase and in a bed. In a classic cup shape, bordered in white on a deep red background, it is carried by thick and sturdy stems that are resistant to bad weather. The soul of Italian style is found in this flower that will compose bouquets of indisputable elegance, alone or with white tulips for example. It blooms in the middle of the tulip season, in April, depending on the climate.

The 'Armani' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced in 2002 in the Netherlands, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, whose main characteristic is to have narrow cup-shaped flowers. Perched on rigid stems of about 40cm (16in), above the widely lanceolate green-blue leaves, the flowers bloom between late April and early May, depending on the climate. They have a narrow cup shape, show six "petals" (more precisely tepals) of thick and slightly silky substance.

The 'Armani' Triumph Tulip finds its place in large beds planted in small groups of 5 to 7 bulbs. Its contrasting colour, which can stand alone in a vase, also allows for beautiful combinations with tulips in white, pink, black or red tones, but also with blue flowers (Forget-me-nots, Grape Hyacinths, Scillas, Hyacinths). This also helps to maximize the duration of flowering in the beds. Pair it with white daffodils, lady's mantle or even Hellebores and Euphorbias, and you will obtain surprising scenes. It goes perfectly with tall perennials, and it is ideal for creating elegant bouquets. In a vase, use very little water, just a bottom is enough! Also, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day.

Planting and care

Plant 'Armani' tulip bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly chalky, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add undecomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Armani' tulip will grow well in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant it in a good exposure, sunny or partially shady. Once flowering is finished, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
