Rosa x floribunda 'Rochemenier Village' - Standard Rose
Thanks to the people in charge of order preparation and shipping, the rose bush I received appears healthy. I have planted it near the 'René Descartes' variety and now I am looking forward to seeing how it develops... Note: It was received with the necessary variety label to identify the rose bush in all seasons.

The 'Rochemenier Village' Standard Rose delivers a radiant and uninterrupted flowering from late spring until late in the season. Its beautifully curved roses adopt different shades of apricot, peach, orange, and pink. Subtly fragrant, they evolve throughout the hours but are exquisite at all stages of their blooming and perfectly highlighted by very healthy foliage of a beautiful dark green. This variety, which pays tribute in the most beautiful way to the troglodyte village not far from Doué-la-Fontaine, is excellent from all points of view!
Standard roses are obtained by grafting a variety (here the 'Rochemenier Village' bush) onto a single and upright stem belonging to a different rose (Rosa canina, R. laxa or R. multiflora), the graft being performed at 90-100 cm (35-39in) above the ground. In very cold regions, protecting the rootstock in winter may be useful.
The 'Rochemenier Village' Frycalm (also marketed under the name Britannia, Daybreaker) is a creation by Gareth Fryer (UK), dating back to 1998. This rose won first prize at the Most Beautiful Garden Rose competition during the Rose Days in Doué la Fontaine in 2002. It has a thin, upright trunk with a well-branched globular crown. The thorny stems are covered in abundant, healthy, deciduous foliage, with large leaflets in a beautiful satin dark green shade. The rose blooms repeatedly from May until October-November. Its flowers are a good size for a floribunda rose, measuring 8 to 10 cm (3 to 4in) in diameter and formed by 17 to 25 petals. They are pink to orange towards the centre and fade as they mature, revealing soft nuances of peach, apricot, and tender pink. The plant loses its foliage in winter.
This Rochemenier Village Standard Rose will find its place in the centre of a large rose bed, isolated in a well-kept garden, aligned along a pathway, or even in a container on the terrace. It pairs perfectly with white roses and pretty easy-to-grow perennials such as perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, blue or mauve asters, snapdragons, foxgloves... Plant this rose above a romantic flower bed with mauve roses like 'Blue Girl' and 'Mamy Blue' or with the white corollas of 'Winchester Cathedral'. Its roses are great for bouquets.

Botanical data
To plant the 'Rochemenier Village' Standard Rose, choose a spot with ordinary, well-drained soil between November and March. The rose prefers heavier clayey soils. If the soil is too sandy, compact, or dry, add compost or well-rotted manure to the planting hole. Avoid waterlogged soils in winter. Place the rose where it can receive ample sunshine and some shade. During the vegetation period and flowering, use a rose fertiliser for better growth. Remove faded flowers to encourage reblooming. Floribunda roses are vigorous and floriferous. In late winter, prune the stems back to about a quarter of their length (from 4 to 6 buds from the base of the stem) to promote bushy growth and prevent tangling in the centre of the branches.
In regions with very cold winters, protect the graft of the standard rose (the "trunk") and wrap it with a thick winter cover such as horticultural fleece.
Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
