This is a collection of 10 varieties of summer-flowering shrubs, mainly deciduous, with leaves that are absent in winter. Hardy, easy to grow and maintain, they are perfect for creating a diverse and dazzling hedge in just a few years, welcoming to the small fauna of the garden. This hedge will also be interesting for its autumn colours, and it will protect the garden from prying eyes and strong winds throughout the beautiful season. Delivered as a kit of 10 plants in pots. This hedging kit allows you to create approximately 10 metres (33 feet) of hedge at a low cost.
The collection consists of:
- 1 Ceanothus Gloire de Versailles: approximately 1.50 metres (5 feet) in all directions. Deciduous foliage, usually falling in autumn. Beautiful with long flowering starting in June-July which can be renewed in successive waves until October. It is made up of light and erect panicles, 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6in) long, in a celestial blue shade, slightly fragrant, nectar-rich and honey-rich.
- 1 Cotinus coggygria Royal Purple - Smokebush: approximately 3.50 metres (11 feet) in height by 2.50 metres (8 feet) in width, with a somewhat wild habit. Very beautiful deciduous foliage, dark purple-violet, turning to flamboyant colours in autumn before falling. Flowering in June, made up of panicles of small yellow-green flowers, turning into long panicles of smoky pinkish purple. In autumn, panicles and foliage take on sumptuous colours, which change to orange, dark pink and scarlet red.
- 1 Escallonia Donard Seedling: a bushy and spreading habit, fairly rapid growth, on average 2 metres (7 feet) in height at maturity and 2.50 metres (8 feet) in width. Its small dark green leaves persist in winter. Flowering from June-July to September, more or less early depending on the climate, made up of clusters of small pale pink to white flowers enclosed in a pink calyx. Hardy down to -15°C (5°F).
- 1 Hibiscus syriacus Woodbridge - Rose of Sharon: approximately 2.50 metres (8 feet) in height by 2 metres (7 feet) in width. Very long flowering from August to October, made up of large single flowers with very bright colours, in pink and red, around a large central white column. Its deciduous foliage forms a beautiful dark, slightly shiny casing. It appears late in spring and falls in November.
- 1 Hydrangea arborescens Annabelle: approximately 1.50 metres (5 feet) in all directions, with rapid growth. Spectacular and decorative flowering from June until the first frost: its small light green inflorescences gradually expand to the size of a large balloon in a bright white. Its beautiful deciduous leaves turn yellow in autumn before falling, while its flowers dry on the stem in a beautiful tan shade.
- 1 Buddleia davidii Pink Delight - Butterfly Bush: approximately 3 metres (10 feet) in height by 4 metres (13 feet) in width, with rapid growth. Flowering from August to October at the end of gracefully arching stems, made up of dense and erect clusters, 25 cm (10in) long, fragrant and a very pretty bright pink. Its long deciduous leaves fall in autumn.
- 1 Hydrangea paniculata Grandiflora: approximately 3 metres (10 feet) in all directions, with rapid and vigorous growth. Flowering in July-August, made up of very large white inflorescences, turning old pink when fading. Its beautiful dark green deciduous foliage takes on beautiful golden hues in autumn before falling.
- 1 Spiraea billardii - Bridal Wreath Spirea: suckering bush, approximately 2 metres (7 feet) in all directions, rapid growth. Deciduous foliage, dark green on top turning yellow in autumn before falling. Flowering in July-August, made up of conical, fluffy and very dense pink inflorescences, 10 to 12 cm (4 to 5in) long.
- 1 Viburnum lantana - Wayfaring Tree: approximately 3 metres (10 feet) in height by 2 metres (7 feet) in width. Woolly young shoots, flowering from April to June, generous, fragrant and honey-rich, with pretty red fruits that turn black and delight the birds. Its foliage ignites in autumn before falling.
- 1 Weigela Bristol Ruby: approximately 2.50 metres (8 feet) in height by 2 metres (7 feet) in width. Large branching shrub with arched branches, adorned with beautiful funnel-shaped flowers in two shades of red. They bloom abundantly from May to June, and then more sporadically in summer. Its deciduous foliage is composed of dark green leaves.
Plant these shrubs preferably in autumn or early spring, in full sun or partial shade, mixing them and spacing them 80 cm (32in) to 1 meter (3 feet) apart. They will thrive in any well-prepared garden soil, without excessive limestone and improved with leaf compost. Once well established, they do not require any watering in summer. This selection is well suited to temperate regions, with average climate, without excessive heat, drought or cold.
Advice: Do not prune at the beginning of the season to fully enjoy the flowering! If possible, also avoid pruning at the end of summer to enjoy the fruits and feed the birds in the garden during winter.

Botanical data
Plant this kit in a temperate climate, in regions that are not too cold in winter, -15°C (5°F) at most, nor too dry and hot in summer. Plant in the sun or partial shade, in ordinary but well-prepared soil, enriched with leaf compost, that is rather moist but well-drained. Dig planting holes of 30-40 cm (12-16in) in all directions, thoroughly loosening the bottom and walls with a fork or pickaxe. Maintain a planting distance of 80 cm (32in) to 1 m (3ft) between each bush. Easy to grow and not very demanding, these shrubs only require mulching in summer in dry climates to maintain some moisture, at least during the first summers after planting. Water them abundantly in the first few years in the case of pronounced drought (15-20 litres of water each time), but keep waterings spaced out. You can prune the longest branches to help your shrubs branch out.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
