The Cercis Canadensis Pink Pom Poms is a large bush with an upright and spreading habit that offers magnificent spring flowering. From the month of April, its branches and bare trunk are covered with a multitude of dark pink pompons resembling small roses. Resulting from a recent cross-breeding between the 'Flame' and 'Oklahoma' varieties, this Canadian Redbud has remarkable hardiness that allows it to brighten up even the most inhospitable climates.
Cercis canadensis is a tree native to the east and centre of the United States, belonging to the extensive family of Legumes. It can reach 12m (39 ft 5 in) high in its natural environment, but rarely exceeds 4 to 7m (13 ft 1 in to 23 ft) in cultivation. It forms a twisted tree, with branches near the ground, often wider than it is tall. The Canadian Redbud has produced numerous varieties with different habits, flowering colours, and foliage. It has a wide, dense, and rounded crown, rather irregular, overhanging a short and wide spread trunk. It has an upright habit that gives it an elegant and refined appearance. Under good growing conditions, this medium-sized tree can reach a height of 5-6m (16 ft 5 in-19 ft 8 in) with a spread of 3-4m (9 ft 10 in-13 ft 1 in). The Cercis canadensis Pink Pom Poms is also characterised by its flowering with very intense pink pompons. In April and May, the branches and still bare trunk of this Redbud are adorned with a multitude of flowers with numerous petals. Very double and particularly large for a Canadian Redbud, they are gathered in clusters along the branches. Flowering is sterile and does not produce seeds, but it attracts insects and birds, creating a garden full of life. This exuberance of the flowers is followed by the emergence of foliage, initially coppery then bright green in summer. The leaves are deciduous, heart-shaped, alternate, and measure between 8 and 12cm (3.1 and 4.7 in), culminating in a symphony of autumn colours before the leaves fall.
The Cercis canadensis naturally grows on the edge of woods and even within forests of deciduous trees. It appreciates fresh, rich, well-drained soils and sunny or partially shaded situations. When well established, it can withstand relatively long periods of drought. Its great hardiness allows it to withstand strong frosts down to -20°. Plant your 'Pink Pom Poms' Canadian Redbud in a deep hole, lined with clay balls or gravel. Not demanding, it accepts all types of soil, whether they are limestone or acidic. In hotter areas, water it frequently during the growing season. It is an easy tree to grow that will reveal all its beauty if it has benefited from good planting conditions.
The Cercis Canadensis Pink Pom Pom is a beautiful plant that can be enjoyed in various settings. Whether it stands alone in a short grass meadow or is a part of a flower bed, it never fails to impress. It can be a stunning addition to a Cherry Blossom tree or a Japanese Quince and create a beautiful colour palette. Planting in a country hedge can mix beautifully with other plants like Forsythia or Cotoneaster Lacteus, creating a mesmerising display of colours.

Botanical data
The Cercis Canadensis Pink Pom Pom plant likes sunny to partially shaded areas. It can endure drought periods once it's well-established, which takes around three years. However, it prefers regions with warm summers as extremely high temperatures can cause stress and make it susceptible to fungal attacks.
This plant is hardy and can withstand heavy frosts if it is protected from moisture. Plant it in well-drained soil using clay pellets or gravel to protect it.
The Canadian Redbud is not picky about soil quality. It can tolerate slightly chalky soils but prefers light and fresh soil. However, it prefers to stay put, so pick its initial location carefully. It's easy to grow and has excellent disease resistance, which makes it a popular choice for gardeners.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
