A bit surprised at first because the plants looked very dry, but we are starting to see small buds, to be continued!

Description

Potentilla fruticosa 'Mango Tango' is a shrub with a bushy and compact. The deciduous foliage is fine and dense, of an ash green colour that highlights the generous bicolour yellow and red-orange flowers. This variety will beautifully illuminate gardens and balconies throughout the summer until autumn!  A charming flowering shrub, ideal for novice gardeners!

Potentillas are native to the northern hemisphere and belong to the Rosaceae family. Potentilla fruticosa is a shrub that, with the help of breeders, has produced a certain number of varieties, each more luminous than the next. 'Mango Tango' measures, at maturity, 60 cm (24in) to 80 cm (32in) in height and just as wide. It forms a bush with a low and very compact habit, with numerous branches. Its deciduous foliage consists of 3 cm (1in) long, pinnate leaves with narrow leaflets, ash green turning yellow in autumn. This elegantly cut foliage is covered with a white pubescence, giving it a silky and silvery appearance. Its delicate flowers, resembling those of single-flowered roses, are cup-shaped, 3 cm (1in) in diameter, with five petals. They have a magnificent colour infused with yellow and red-orange towards the centre, which truly reveals its brightness and intensity in partial shade. The abundant flowering starts in May-June and lasts until the first frost, if the autumn is mild. It should be noted that flowering is more intense in early summer and loses some of its vigour during the season.

This shrubby Potentilla 'Mango Tango', very easy to grow and resistant to drought, enjoys being planted in a sunny position, without scorched, or in semi-shade, and in ordinary, well-drained soil.

Easy-to-grow plants, generously floriferous and beautifully coloured, Potentillas are ideal for brightening up the garden or balcony. With their wild rose appearance and their very modest requirements, they can be used in multiple ways: in flower beds, rockeries, borders, low hedges, containers...

By placing them at the forefront of your flower beds, they will be perfect for quickly achieving vibrant and colourful flower beds, worthy of a Van Gogh or Claude Monet painting. They will have a beautiful effect when combined with Dahlias, Iris germanica, Achilleas or Rudbeckias, for example. They will ideally blend with Mediterranean plants, such as Lavenders or Cistus, for a warm and fragrant atmosphere. To create a contemporary scene, they can be paired with plants with a more slender or tousled habit (Phormiums, Grasses, Euphorbias, Crocosmias). On a slope or rockery, where they will be ideally placed if your garden soil is heavy or clay, they can also be associated with dwarf or creeping Conifers, creeping Ceanothus or even groundcover and landscape roses.

Planting and care

Very easy to grow, Potentilla fruticosa 'Mango Tango' is very hardy and can withstand very low temperatures ,-20°C (1°F) to -25°C (1°F).  It prefers a sunny or partially shaded position. Its only real requirement is the nature of the soil where it is planted. It requires ordinary, poor, sandy, or even rocky and well-drained soil.  It is also possible to lighten the soil at the time of planting by adding sand and gravel to improve drainage.  It is also drought tolerant once established. The shrubby Potentilla does not require much maintenance. It flowers on the shoots of the same year, and a simple annual pruning is necessary to refresh it. It is recommended to prune back the stems that have borne flowers the previous year in early spring, just above a bud, in order to stimulate regrowth and maintain the beautifully bushy shape of your Potentilla. It is also desirable to remove faded flowers to encourage flowering to continue for a long time.
