Description

The Triumph Tulip 'Grand Perfection' is a variety whose bicolour flowering does not go unnoticed, both in the garden and in a vase. Between April and May, it produces flowers in a classic cup shape, with a pale yellow to ivory white flower streaked with different shades of red. Each stem, very sturdy in bad weather, carries a flower with a unique pattern. Superb in a flower border or mass planting, with forget-me-nots or yarrows for example. This magnificent tulip has been awarded by the RHS in England.

The Triumph Tulip 'Grand Perfection' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced to the market in 1999, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, whose main characteristic is to present narrow cup-shaped flowers. The "Triumph" tulips are a crossbreed between "early single tulips" and "Darwin" tulips. This 'Grand Perfection' variety develops a sturdy flowering stem of about 45-50 cm (18-20in) in height. Its flower measures approximately 6 cm (2in) in diameter, it is beautifully variegated and changes slightly in colour as it ripens. Its flower occurs between late April and May, more towards the end of the tulip season. The foliage emerges from the ground in spring. It consists of large lanceolate leaves, 10 to 35 cm (4 to 14in) long, with a glaucous green colour that yellows and then dries a few weeks after flowering, when the bulb goes into dormancy.

Triumph Tulips are unrivaled for bringing spring colour to pots or sunny gardens. Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make gorgeous cut flowers that last a long time in a vase. The 'Grand Perfection' tulip finds its place in large flower beds, in combination with other white, pink, mauve or purple tulips, but also accompanied by blue or white flowers. Forget-me-nots, wood hyacinths or grape hyacinths will enhance its rich hues.
