Description

This Wildflower Mix for Bees is a selection of native perennial and annual plants renowned for their nectar richness and honey-producing character. Easy to grow in ordinary soil and requiring very little maintenance, they can be sown directly in situ in spring or autumn, in a sunny spot in well-loosened and prepared soil. Some plants will flower as early as summer, after a spring sowing, then from spring onwards in subsequent years or after an autumn sowing. The meadow will also provide a refuge for biodiversity. Some plants will self-seed spontaneously wherever they please.

This selection is formed of 48 native species, including 13 annuals and 35 perennials, capable of sustainably feeding bees and other pollinating insects. It notably includes yarrow, viper's bugloss, common poppy, foxglove, mallow, campions, meadow clary, wild teasel, bird's-foot trefoil, and various umbellifers. The meadow will reach between 80 cm and 1 m in height. These plants, originating from our wild flora, are perfectly adapted to our climate, able to maintain themselves naturally year after year. Perfect for creating a corner of living, spontaneous meadow in the garden, this mix actively contributes to the safeguarding of pollinators.

The flower meadow is very fashionable: once established, it flowers for several weeks without requiring maintenance. It will only need occasional watering if the weather is truly very dry, along with a cut back to 10-20 cm from the soil in autumn, without collecting the cuttings to allow for natural reseeding. It will bring colour and life to a slightly wild area of the garden and will attract bees near fruit trees, promoting pollination and fruit production.
Invite nature into your garden: sow our mixes for flower meadows along a path border, on the bank bordering a sunken lane, or at the bottom of the garden, at the boundary with the countryside.

Planting and care

Sowing the Wildflower Mix for Bees:

Sow directly in situ, in March-April or from August to November.
To avoid weeding, we recommend the practice of a stale seedbed carried out between soil preparation and sowing the mix. Perform two to three 'stale seedbeds' to clear the ground without using chemicals: after preparing the soil, allow weed seeds to germinate (watering if necessary to speed up emergence), then destroy them by lightly raking the soil surface, only a few centimetres deep, to avoid bringing new seeds to the surface.

Mix the contents of the packet with an equal volume of dry sand to achieve better seed distribution.
Sow broadcast on the surface like lawn seed.
Roll or firm the soil to ensure seed-to-soil contact.
Water with a very fine spray and keep moist until emergence.

The correct sowing rate: sow approximately 2.5 g per m².

To maintain the flowering for the following year, at the end of flowering (late September or early October) scythe and then mow, without the grass box, to 10-20 cm from the soil. Do not collect the mowings.
