Description
The 'Scentimental Vanille'® Rose is an unusual American creation, which intense fragrance blends citrus and spicy notes. Its fully double flowers, variegated with soft pink and creamy yellow, offer a spectacle that is both gentle and luminous, perfect to create a romantic atmosphere in the garden or in pots. Compact yet vigorous, this bush is clothed in healthy, glossy foliage and its roses renew themselves all summer in generous bouquets. A unique variety, halfway between an old-fashioned and a modern rose, which will delight lovers of fragrance and original colours.
The 'Scentimental Vanille'® ('Wekgoagroro') rose is an American creation dating from before 2018, resulting from the work of breeder Christian Bédard for Weeks Roses. It is the fruit of cross-breeding between the varieties 'Good as Gold' and 'Rock & Roll™', two roses renowned for their generous flowering and fragrance. This rose is marketed under the names 'Pop Art’ and ‘Explosion d’espoir’, depending on the country. The name Scentimental Vanille® is a play on words between "sentimental", evoking the romantic look of its flowers, and "scent", referring to their exceptional fragrance.
This rose produces cup-shaped flowers of 10-11 cm in diameter, very double, of old-fashioned style, with between 52 and 75 petals, randomly variegated from salmon pink to soft pink and from creamy yellow to yellow. Each one is different. Their fragrance with citrus and spicy notes is very pronounced. The flowers with fleshy petals have a superior vase life to those of the cultivar 'Scentimental'. Of compact habit and well ramified, this rose forms a bush of 70 cm to 1.20 m in height and 75 to 90 cm in width. Its dark green, healthy and glossy foliage is formed of 3 to 7 dentate leaflets. The flower buds are ovoid and rounded, grouped in small bouquets. The flowering renews itself in waves from May-June to September-October. Very disease resistant, this rose is hardy down to -20°C.
Place the 'Scentimental® Vanille' rose not far from a path or on the terrace to enjoy its charm and fragrance. Integrate it into a bed of medium-sized shrubs, for example, with dwarf abelias, shrubby cinquefoils and Caryopteris. The unusual colouring of the Scentimental® Vanille flowers pairs well with white roses ('Marina Picasso'), yellow roses ('Anny Duperey') and orange roses ('Martin des Senteurs'). Its small development makes it perfectly suited to container cultivation, provided it receives regular watering and fertiliser applications.

Planting and care
Plant the 'Scentimental® Vanille' rose from November to March in ordinary, well-loosened and well-drained soil. Roses favour clay soils, preferring heavier to lighter ones. In soil that is too sandy, too compact, or too dry in summer, it is advisable to incorporate potting compost, well-rotted manure, or compost at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dislikes waterlogged soil in winter. Position it in a sunny spot, or at a push, in partial shade. Roses are hungry plants; a specific fertiliser application will be beneficial at the start of growth and then regularly throughout the entire flowering period. To encourage repeat flowering, regularly remove spent flowers.
Roses often become spotted or unsightly by late summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose; it is a natural phenomenon. Follow all our advice to remedy this and consult our article: Help: I have spots on my roses.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
