Prunus persica Yellow Vine - Peach tree

Prunus persica Yellow Vine is a yellow-fleshed variant of the Sanguine vine peach, with the same qualities. It is self-fertile, vigorous, productive and late, allowing it to be cultivated even in the north. After three years of cultivation, the tree becomes less susceptible to peach leaf curl. Its small, non-fibrous, yellow-fleshed fruits have a unique, sweet and melting flavour, very sweet and tangy. They are round and covered with yellow-orange to pinkish skin. They can be enjoyed in compotes, preserves and fresh. Harvest when ripe, late in September.

The species name "persica" was given to the peach, which was thought to originate from Persia. In reality, all cultivated forms originate from northern China. It appeared in Europe in the 6th century and experienced significant development in the 19th century. From then on, numerous selections aimed at improving the fruit's taste qualities took place. The Yellow Vine Peach was planted with vines: more susceptible to diseases than the vine, it suffered first, allowing the winemaker to predict a treatment for his vine.

Like many fruit trees, the Yellow Vine Peach likes light, rich and deep soils, it does not tolerate excessive water or heavy and compact soils well. A sunny location sheltered from the wind will help with fruiting. It is a vigorous tree with a tall trunk with many horizontally growing branches, giving it an elegant spread silhouette. Its deciduous foliage is bright green and emits a slight almond fragrance. Its leaves are long, from 8 to 15 cm (3 to 6in) by 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) wide, with a short petiole. Its late, tender pink flowering occurs in April. The flowers are hermaphroditic and self-fertile resulting in round fruits with yellow-orange skin. They have a unique, sweet,  melting, tangy flavour. This tree does not need much maintenance. It tolerates pruning well.

Peaches can be enjoyed raw, cooked, sweet, savoury, flambéed, glazed or deglazed. They pair very well with wine and certain meats, such as duck. They can be found in numerous recipes, especially jams, compotes, pastries...

For transportation reasons, our tallest scions may be pruned before shipment. They are suitable for all common training sizes: cordons, espaliers, goblets, half-standards and low standards, but not high standards.
