Prunus persica Saturn - Flat Peach Tree

The Saturne® Peach® bailou is a self-fertile variety, with strong vigour and high productivity. It can be grown in all regions. Its flat peaches are medium-sized, light red on a cream background. Their white flesh is of good taste and has a very fine texture; juicy, sweet, and aromatic. The harvest takes place when they are ripe in August.

The species name "persica" was given to the peach, which was thought to be native to Persia. In reality, all cultivated forms are native to northern China. Its appearance in Europe occurred in the 6th century and experienced significant development in the 19th century. From then on, numerous selections aimed at improving the fruit's taste qualities took place. The Saturne® Peach is a selected variety protected by K.Bailey-F.Hough in the state of New Jersey, United States.

Like many fruit trees, the Saturne® Peach appreciates light, rich, and deep soils. It does not tolerate excess water or heavy and compact soils. A sunny location sheltered from the wind will protect the flowering and help with fruiting, even though its late flowering protects it from spring frosts.

It is a tree with an upright habit, indicating a tall trunk tree with many branches growing vertically, giving it an elegant and slender silhouette. Its deciduous foliage is bright green and emits a slight almond scent. Its leaves are long, from 8 to 15 cm (3 to 6in) long and 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) wide, with a short petiole.

Its pale pink flowering occurs late, at the end of March, beginning of April, making it suitable for cultivation in regions north of the Loire. The flowers are hermaphroditic and self-fertile.
Abundant fruiting results in light red flat peaches on a cream background. Their white flesh is of good taste and has a very fine texture; juicy, sweet, and aromatic. It is advisable to thin out by removing damaged fruits and promote better production. This tree, which is resistant to frost, does not require too much maintenance and tolerates pruning well, even when green.

Peaches can be enjoyed raw, cooked, sweetened, salted, flambéed, frozen, or thawed. They pair very well with wine and certain meats, such as duck. They can be found in numerous recipes, especially for jams, compotes, pastries.

This fruit tree is delivered in a "ready-to-plant" root ball. During planting, the root ball must be planted as it is. The biodegradable tontine that surrounds the root ball and preserves the rootlets will decompose naturally during the plant's growth. By doing so, you ensure better establishment.
