Thank you to the team (for order preparation and shipping), the rose bush I received appears healthy. Planted in the ground, I'm now patiently waiting for it to take root...(or not?).

Description

The Drakkar® Rose is a large-flowered bush that combines the abundance of modern roses with the charm of old-fashioned roses and the fragrance of hybrid teas. Its flowers display a stunning flamingo pink hue with carmine pink undertones. Borne on long stems atop a vigorous bush, they can be admired both in the garden and as cut flowers. Naturally disease-resistant, this variety requires minimal maintenance. In a pot, its elegant appearance and compact size will adorn a patio or balcony. Provide it with a large 40 to 50-litre container filled with rich compost, and it will bloom profusely all summer long. An exceptional rose that won’t disappoint!

The Drakkar® 'Meikolyma' rose is a creation by Meilland introduced in 2010. This variety is also known in some countries as Candy Love® and Caritas®. Belonging to the horticultural group of hybrid tea roses, it is distinguished by its large flowers and continuous flowering from June until the first frosts. It is part of the prestigious 'Les grands classiques de Meilland®' collection, which brings together iconic varieties with vibrant colours and timeless forms. This collection includes renowned roses such as Mme A. Meilland (Peace), Pierre de Ronsard, Bonica 82, Papa Meilland, as well as Black Baccara.
The Drakkar® 'Meikolyma' rose has an upright and balanced habit, reaching a height of 90 cm to 1.10 m with a spread of around 50 cm. Measuring 12 to 14 cm in diameter, its flowers evoke old-fashioned roses with their quartered form and approximately 70 petals. Their luminous shade ranges from flamingo pink to a deeper cherry pink at the edges. Delicately scented, the blooms exude a light tea rose fragrance. The foliage is deciduous, falling in autumn. Its colour is a rich dark green with bronze undertones. It is particularly disease-resistant.

The story behind this rose is deeply emotional. It was created in tribute to the 58 French soldiers and the Lebanese family who lost their lives in the bombing of the 'Drakkar' building in Beirut on 23 October 1983. With its abundant flowering and robust character, the Drakkar® Meikolyma commemorates this event by bringing beauty and resilience to the gardens that welcome it.

With its peony-like flowers in warm hues and long stems, this modern 'Drakkar' rose makes wonderful cut flowers. It will fit beautifully in the garden as part of a large rose bed, at the front of a shrub border, or at the centre of a cottage garden. It will also thrive in containers. Its colour pairs well with white and the entire spectrum of blues, purples, and violets. For combination planting, choose carefree cottage garden flowers such as wild bellflowers or white foxgloves. Its flowers are perfect for creating elegant cut flower arrangements that will delicately perfume the home.

Planting and care

To plant your Drakkar rose, prepare the soil by digging a 25 cm cube, breaking up the earth well and adding a base fertiliser such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Place your plant after removing it from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm of soil, backfill and water thoroughly to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to encourage root development. Also consider feeding your rose with a special rose fertiliser to stimulate flowering. Choose a sunny spot, or partial shade in very hot regions.

Container cultivation: select a large 40 to 50 L container with drainage holes and filled with a rich growing medium.
