Description

The Rose Audrey Fleurot is a recent variety with many advantages. Its deep pink flowers display impressive dimensions while exuding an undeniable romantic charm. They are very double with the quartered heart of certain old roses and a fruity fragrance. The healthy, dark green foliage provides the perfect setting to enhance the flowering. Resistant to diseases and blooming from May to frost, this variety has everything to please you.

'Audrey Fleurot' is a recent modern shrub rose, introduced by the famous Meilland house, and named in honour of the actress in April 2021 during the Festival des Jardins de la Côte d'Azur. Like all roses, this plant belongs to the large family of Rosaceae, to which we owe most of our fruit trees (apple trees, peach trees...), shrubs, and ornamental perennial plants, as well as many wild plants. The Rosa genus is rich in numerous botanical species as well as a multitude of horticultural hybrids, the result of breeders' work who prioritise appearance and fragrance, disease resistance and floribundity.
The 'Audrey Fleurot' rose is a perfect example that combines these qualities. It forms a well-proportioned bush, 80 cm high by 50 cm wide, adorned with shiny dark green, healthy and disease-resistant foliage. The solitary flower buds at the end of long stems, or more rarely grouped in twos or threes, open from May, producing very double flowers with about a hundred petals. They resemble the old "quartered" roses, with their slightly wrinkled heart, divided into several parts formed by wavy petals. Other regularly overlapped petals surround the heart to form a truly charming cup. The pink colour is uniform and very intense, eye-catching from metres away. These roses can reach a diameter of 14 cm and exhale a pronounced fruity fragrance. This rose is very recurrent, and blooms in successive waves, from May-June depending on the climate, to October-November, enchanting the garden throughout summer, while bouquets of its flowers will fill the house with fragrance.

The Audrey Fleurot rose deserves a prominent place in the garden, where its vibrant colours will be a strong focal point throughout summer until the first frost. It will be perfect in a flower bed with other flowering plants. It is quite compact, so it can be planted in front of taller roses, such as Annelies, a variety with powder pink flowers gradually turning white and reaching a height of 1.50 m. At the base of Audrey Fleurot, plant Carpathian Bellflowers, a small spreading perennial that is covered with light blue bell-shaped flowers in summer, whose simplicity will blend well with the romantic charm of your rose, while creating a strong colour contrast. In the background of your bed, a white Chaste Tree like Silver Spire will fit well with its tall white spikes in summer that will harmonise beautifully with the fairly vibrant pink of your rose.

Planting and care

To plant your Audrey Fleurot rose, prepare your soil to a depth of 50 cm by crumbling the soil and adding an organic base fertiliser, such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, at the bottom of the planting hole. Roses appreciate fertile and deep soils. Soak the root ball in a bucket for fifteen minutes to thoroughly saturate it with water, then position your plant by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm of soil, fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to aid root development (water at the base without wetting the foliage). Also, provide your rose with special rose fertiliser, which is higher in potassium (K) than nitrogen (N), as it stimulates plant flowering.
