Description

The 'Danceline' Late Double Tulip is a variety full of refinement and freshness. It produces large, round, double flowers reminiscent of peonies towards the end of the season. Easy to combine in the garden with roses and all kinds of perennials and annuals, this beautiful tulip is a charming addition to spring flower beds!

The 'Danceline' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, registered in 2006, it is currently classified in the group of 'Late Double Tulips', which are characterized by very double and crinkled flowers, with generous shapes, carried by weather-resistant stems. 'Danceline' is medium-sized, with a stem standing at 40cm (16in) from the ground. Its flower is imposing, with a diameter of 8cm (3in), double and well arranged, reminiscent of a fully bloomed peony. Each flower is adorned with outer petals more or less streaked with green-yellow to bright green. The petals, white-pink to pure white, are all marked by a small fuchsia spot that seems to have been brushed onto the centre of their border. Flowering takes place at the end of the tulip season, in May-June. The foliage, which will disappear a few weeks after flowering, consists of large lanceolate leaves with a slightly glaucous green colour, thick and crossed by parallel veins.

The 'Danceline' Late Double Tulip finds its place in large flower beds, along with perennial plants and tulips with various colours that it enhances. This tulip also beautifies balconies and terraces. It is ideal for creating elegant bouquets, for example with varieties such as 'Maureen', a double white and green tulip, 'Astarte Design' (raspberry red edged with white), 'Carnaval de Nice', white Lunaria, and red lilies. In a vase, only use very little water, a bottom is enough! Moreover, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day. Unmatched for bringing the colours of spring to pots or sunny gardens, do not forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make beautiful cut flowers that last a long time in a vase.

Planting and care

Place the late double tulips 'Danceline' preferably in a sunny location from October to December for a beautiful spring flowering. You can also place them in a partially shaded area. Plant the bulbs as soon as possible in a light, fertile, and well-drained soil that has been deeply loosened to a depth of 15cm (6in) (bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs 10cm (4in) apart, making sure they do not touch each other to create a mass effect; cut the flower stems after flowering. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them.
