Description

Sweet and passionate, the 'Capri Rose' Triumph Tulip with its candy pink corolla reveals a heart infused with deep red. It blooms in the middle of the tulip season, from early to mid-spring, depending on the climate. Beautiful in large flower beds, it is also perfect for bouquets.

The 'Capri Rose' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Originally horticultural, it is currently classified in the group of 'Triumph' tulips, which are characterized by their narrow cup-shaped flowers. It was introduced in 1997 as a mutation of the 'Capri' Triumph Tulip with red flowering. It reaches a height of 40cm (16in) when in bloom. Perched on stems well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the elegant candy pink flowers are quite square but narrow in shape, with six "petals" (more precisely tepals) that are washed with red on the inside. The flowering takes place in March-April, at the heart of the tulip season.

With their rich colours, sturdy and resistant flowers, suitable for both flower beds and bouquets, Triumph Tulips are well-known. They are among the most planted varieties. Unmatched for bringing spring colour to pots or sunny gardens, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make beautiful long-lasting cut flowers. 'Capri Rose' is a good cultivar for winter forcing, allowing for lovely bouquets to be offered for Valentine's Day.

About botanical species: Tulip species can be found from Western Europe to China and Japan, through Eastern Europe, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. They are also found in North Africa and the Indian subcontinent. The centre of diversity for the genus is in the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains and the steppes of Kazakhstan.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in the autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly chalky, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Capri Rose' tulip will grow well in moist to dry soil. Plant it in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is complete, it is best to remove the fruits to prevent the plant from becoming exhausted.
