Description

The Triumph Tulip 'Stunning Star' is a beautiful new variety, still rarely seen in commerce. It produces large flowers with pointed petals in April, beautifully coloured in apricot orange with a salmon pink hue. Over time, the tones soften and become more pastel. Pair it with yellow tulips or late-flowering daffodils, warm tones that are welcome in the garden after the winter greyness. Its long stem remains strong in inclement weather and looks stunning in bouquets.

The Triumph Tulip 'Stunning Star' belongs to the Lily family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, which is characterized by narrow cup-shaped flowers. They are the result of cross-breeding between early single tulips and Darwin tulips. With a wide range of colours, sturdy and resistant flowers suitable for both borders and bouquets, the fame of Triumph tulips is well established. They are among the most planted varieties.

Triumph tulips are unrivalled for bringing spring colour to pots or sunny gardens. When designing your borders, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make beautiful long-lasting cut flowers. 'Stunning Star' finds its place in large borders, paired with other white or yellow tulips, as well as with blue flowers. Forget-me-nots, bluebells, or grape hyacinths will enhance its warm tones. Tulips are also lovely flowers to cut.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Tulips will grow well in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant them in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is complete, it is advisable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
