The collection of 'Matrix Ruby Mix' Pansies offers an abundance of flowers in various shades of pink, sometimes solid, sometimes bicolored in pink and white, maculated or not with black. Of medium size, they appear during a very long period. The plants are compact, floriferous and resistant to cold, diseases and heat. This variety recovers very well in spring and does not bolt with the first heat, which ensures a long and high-quality flowering. It is easy to grow in humus-bearing and moist soil, in a sunny or semi-shaded exposure.

Garden pansies, sometimes called Swiss giant pansies, are actually hybrids that are grouped in the Viola x wittrockiana group. They belong to the viola family and are most often grown as annuals or biennials, although they are theoretically perennial but short-lived. The 'Matrix F1 Ruby Mix' variety produces ramified plants that quickly form compact clumps, with a slightly spreading habit, reaching 20cm (8in) in height and 20 to 30cm (8 to 12in) in width. Their flowering occurs from the end of winter until the end of spring, or from the end of spring until the end of summer. 'Matrix F1 Ruby Mix' pansies offer medium-sized flowers, with a diameter of 4 to 5cm (2in), that are well open. Some of them are solid, ranging from pale pink to deep pink, while others combine white petals with more or less dark pink petals, up to purple. Depending on the plants, they are adorned with 3 black macules at the base of the petals, around a tiny bright yellow and white center. The medium green leaves are elliptical and broadly crenate.

If you love it in the garden, it will be most appreciated in a planter, on the windowsill, so you can have it in front of you while staying warm. In planters and flower pots, you can mix pansies with primroses, wallflowers, muscari, daisies... and even with grasses like Japanese sedge for a graphic effect in a contemporary spirit. In the garden, associate them with heucheras and tulips. The bluish-green colour of glaucous fescues also highlights them well.

The petals of pansies are edible, their colours will bring a touch of originality to your salads and pastries. For this, think of growing them as you would grow your vegetables, in the most natural way possible.
