Description

The  'Cool Wave® White' Pansy is a hybrid variety of Viola x wittrockiana. It is a biennial plant whose refreshing blooms last from October to April. Its trailing habit is perfectly suited for hanging baskets. The white flowers with their heart of yellow striped with black renew constantly regardless of climatic conditions, brightening up flower boxes and borders.

The 'Cool Wave®' series represents a new generation of trailing pansies. They are very well-branching and form a clump that can reach 20 cm (7.9 in) in height and 20 to 40 cm (15.7 in) in width. This can be enhanced further if you provide them with fertiliser every 15 days. They thrive perfectly on balconies thanks to their trailing habit, and offer abundant flowering. A short-lived perennial plant, grown in Europe as a biennial, this Viola has numerous small crenate leaves of a medium green colour and elliptical shape. Above these are countless small flowers measuring 3 to 4 cm (1.6 in) in diameter, composed of five petals. If grown organically their petals are edible - go ahead and sprinkle some on salads or other dishes.

Planted in summer, they will thrive from autumn onwards. Vigorous, these Pansies are hardy in bad weather and tolerate  even the harshest freezing periods. You may see them wilt and then revive as soon as the frost passes. They will keep you company throughout the winter, somewhat more discreetly, and continue their flowering in spring.

These bright pansies should be kept near the house in order to enjoy their radiance as much as possible: in flowerboxes on window sills, in pots near entrances, or on the terrace. That said, given their adaptability they can also be placed at the front of flowerbeds where they will bring a lively touch and easily intermingle with spring bulbs. They will complement the pastel shades of muscari and daffodils.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, or directly into flower beds.

Planting and care

The plugs of 'Cool Wave® White' pansies must be transplanted as soon as they are received, directly into pots or planters. Keep an eye on moisture levels and regularly apply fertiliser (approximately twice a month).

If you wish to grow them in open ground, first transplant them into pots. Be vigilant with watering but do not saturate the soil. There is no need to keep them in a greenhouse; just avoid exposing them to scorching sun . Leave for a good month and then plant in their final location.

Remove faded flowers as they appear to stimulate the production of new buds.
