Description

The Viola cornuta 'Floral Power Soft Pink' forms very bushy and floriferous plants which, in belonging to the 'Floral Power' series, are among the best introductions of pansies in recent years. Exceptionally floriferous, the Viola x williamsiana 'Floral Power Soft Pink' displays large flowers in a very soft pastel pink, punctuated by a bright yellow heart. This biennial blooms from late winter to summer, flooding borders, pots, and hanging baskets.

The group of Viola x williamsii gathers hybrids belonging to the violet family, resulting from the cross-breeding between V. wittrockiana (garden pansy) and V. cornuta, the horned violet. The selection 'Floral Power Soft Pink' forms low and branching plants, in bushy clumps of 10 to 15 cm (5.9 in) in height and 15 cm (5.9 in) in width. They stand out for their rapid growth and extraordinary abundant flowering, covering themselves with flowers from late winter to summer. The flowers are quite large and continuously renew on medium green foliage. They all have a very soft pink colour on uniform corollas formed of 5 petals. They are illuminated by a beautiful golden yellow macule at the base of the 3 lower petals. Flowers resemble those of small pansies but with petals arranged differently: the two upper ones are erect, the other three inclined downwards. The plant spreads quite rapidly thanks to its rhizomes and also self-seeds very easily in the garden, not always faithfully.

Pansies, like horned violets, are intended for low flowerbeds and borders, as well as pots and balconies, where they will combine well with other spring and summer flowering plants (Forget-me-nots, Dwarf daffodils, Daisies, Primroses, Botanical tulips, summer and autumn asters, etc.). The flowers of pansies and horned violets are edible, so don't hesitate to decorate your plates with a few or even to add to salads for a touch of colour.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, or directly into flower beds.

Planting and care

Horned violets appreciate a light, humus-rich soil, moist but well-drained as they do not like excess moisture in winter. In heavy soil, add a bit of sand to improve drainage.

Plant horned violets in a sunny  but not scorching location or under light shade.

Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. Feed them with a liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Water regularly but not excessively. Remove faded flowers to promote new blooms.
