Description

The resplendent flowers of the Viola wittrockiana 'F1 Felix’ mix come in six vibrant colors and have a "face" adorned with fine black or blue veins that resemble small feline mustaches. Particularly vigorous and floriferous, they bloom in autumn and again in late winter, reaching their peak between March and June. This mix of hybrid pansies is easy to grow in humus-rich, moist soil, in sun or partial shade.

Garden pansies, sometimes called Swiss giant pansies, are actually hybrids grouped under Viola x wittrockiana. They belong to the viola family and are most often grown as annuals or biennials, although they are theoretically perennials but short-lived. The plants in the 'F1 Felix' mix are bushy and quickly form compact clumps with a rounded habit, measuring 15 to 20 cm (7.9 in) in all directions. They flower early, starting in October and continuing until the end of spring. The flowers are large, measuring 6 cm (2.4 in) in diameter, fully open, with rich and intense colours ranging from bright yellow to violet-blue, as well as wine-red and orange. They have a velvety texture. From a tiny bright yellow and white center, fine black "moustaches" (called "beards") radiate. The medium green leaves are elliptical and broadly crenate.

If you love them in the garden you will greatly appreciate them in window boxes, to enjoy while keeping warm inside. Plant alongside primroses, WallflowersGrape HyacinthsDaisies, and even with grasses like Japanese Sedge for a graphic effect in a contemporary style. Associate them with heucheras and tulips. The bluish-green colour of glaucous fescues also enhances them well.

The petals of pansies are edible, and their colours will bring a touch of originality to your salads and pastries. For this purpose, think of growing them as you would your vegetables - in the most natural way possible.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, or directly into flower beds.

Planting and care

Very floriferous and of rapid growth, the pansies of the 'Felix' F1 Mix are greedy and appreciate a sunny or partially shaded site. They thrive in a humus-rich, neutral to acidic, moist and fertile soil. Feed them with a liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growth period. Water regularly but not excessively. Regularly remove faded flowers to promote new blooms.
