Description

The 'Cool Wave® Purple Wing' Pansy is a hybrid variety of Viola x wittrockiana. It is a biennial plant whose flowering period extends from October to April. Its habit, which is very trailing, is perfectly suited to hanging baskets and its multiple flowers constantly renew themselves regardless of the climatic conditions. The bicoloured yellow and violet flowers are adorned with small whiskers and a small violet beard, giving the effect of a lovely little face that brightens up flower boxes or borders.

The 'Cool Wave®' series corresponds to a new generation of trailing pansies. They have excellent branching and form a clump that can reach 20 cm (7.9 in) in height and a width of 20 to 40 cm (7.9 - 15.7 in). This can be further enhanced by providing them with fertiliser every 15 days. They thrive perfectly in balcony planters thanks to their trailing habit, and offer impressively abundant flowering. A short-lived perennial plant, grown in our latitudes as a biennial, this Viola has numerous small, crenate leaves of medium green colour and elliptical shape. Above these leaves countless small flowers measuring 3 to 4 cm (1.2 - 1.6 in), composed of five petals (three below and two above) cover the compact cushion they form. Their petals are edible (if grown without treatments) so don't hesitate to pick a few flowers to sprinkle on your dishes.

If planted in summer they will bloom from autumn onwards. Vigorous, these Pansies are undeterred by bad weather and withstand periods of frost, even the most severe. You will see them droop and then revive once temperatures soften. They will keep you company throughout the winter, albeit more discreetly, and will continue to bloom in spring.

Happy and lively, these Pansies should be kept near the house to enjoy them over a long period - in flower boxes on the windowsill, in pots near entrances, and on the terrace. However, being accommodating and resistant, they will also brighten up the front of borders and easily fit in between spring bulbs, complementing the yellow of daffodils and the violet of crocuses.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, or directly into flower beds.

Planting and care

The plugs of 'Cool Wave® Purple Wing' pansies should be transplanted directly into pots or containers upon receipt. Monitor moisture levels and regularly apply fertiliser (approximately twice a month).

If planting in the ground, first transplant them into a bucket. Keep an eye on watering but do not saturate the soil. There is no need to keep them in a greenhouse, just make sure they are not at risk of getting scorched. After a good month, you can transplant them directly into their final position.

Remove faded flowers as they appear to encourage the growth of new buds.
