Jackman's clematis 'Ivan Olsson'
This clematis is gorgeous. I've got a really nice young plant last year already blooming, flowers are incredibly beautiful. Can't wait to see it this season.

Description
Clematis 'Ivan Olsson' is an excellent variety with large flowers and exceptional flowering. From June to September, it is covered with wide pastel corollas in azure blue and white with a silver reverse. They succeed each other without interruption on a small-sized climber. It will brighten up somewhat austere areas of the garden, such as a bare bush, while taking up minimal space. Its modest size is also suitable for growing in large pots on patios and balconies.
Clematis belong to the Ranunculaceae family. They are found in both hemispheres, especially in Europe, the Himalayas, China, Australia, North and Central America. The 'Ivan Olson' variety, which appeared in Sweden in 1955, is a mutation with light flowers of C. 'The President', discovered in England in 1873, and derived from the cross-breeding between C. 'Jackmanii' and an unidentified cultivar. 'Ivan Olsson' is notably derived from C. patens, a woody clematis native to Japan. It belongs to the group of clematis that flower in June on the previous year's wood, and then a second time on the current year's shoots. They bloom in successive waves until the end of summer. It is a perfectly perennial, semi-woody and climbing plant that will not exceed 2 to 3m (7 to 10ft) in height, with a spread of at least 1m (3ft). The single flowers are of the 'Jackmanii' type. They are open towards the outside and form a 14cm (6in) wide star, with overlapping petals. The centre is occupied by purple stamens. The petals are pale blue, with a white central zone, and are slightly bordered with blue-violet. The medium green deciduous leaves are composed of 3 ovate to lanceolate leaflets measuring 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) long, or are simple and ovate measuring 7 to 10cm (3 to 4in) long.
Clematis 'Ivan Olsson' is an excellent plant for a sunny exposure. It is suitable for both small gardens and container gardening. Plant your clematis in the company of climbing roses, which can sometimes be bare at the base, to extend the flowering period until the end of summer. It is a genus rich in diversity, with flowers of all colours, shapes, and sizes. Take advantage of their easy cultivation to give your garden a romantic and bohemian touch.

Planting and care
Choose a sunny or semi-shaded exposure. In a sunny exposure, shade the base of your plant with a ground cover plant or a perennial geranium. Clematis like to keep their feet cool. Work the soil to a depth of 20cm (8in), and lighten it with good compost and coarse sand. Position the plant and cover the root ball with 3cm (1in) of soil. Water generously and regularly during the first few weeks.
Clematis cling on their own thanks to their tendrils. To promote their growth, provide them with a trellis support or let them dress the trunk of a tree by placing a wire mesh against the trunk for the clematis to climb on. Clematis also like to grow freely on neighbouring plants.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands).
It will vary according to where you live:
- In Mediterranean zones (Marseille, Madrid, Milan, etc.), autumn and winter are the best planting periods.
- In continental zones (Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, etc.), delay planting by 2 to 3 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 2 to 4 weeks in autumn.
- In mountainous regions (the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, etc.), it is best to plant in late spring (May-June) or late summer (August-September).
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
