Out of the two received, one has buds growing, the other has nothing, I have doubts about the life of the second plant.

Description

The 'Tetrarose' Clematis is one of the most planted Clematis montana in gardens. Notable for its abundant spring flowering in a deep pink lilac colour, with a carnation fragrance, it also charms with its beautiful bronze foliage, natural appearance, and vigour. This superb improvement of the mountain clematis sometimes reblooms during the summer or in September, among its now bronze foliage. This hardy climber is made for large spaces, romantic or cottage gardens. It will thrive in full sun or partial shade, in a cool, deep, fertile soil, and even in a mountain garden.

The 'Tetrarose' Clematis is a semi-woody, climbing perennial, belonging to the ranunclulaceae family, obtained in the Netherlands a few years ago, and awarded in England by the RHS for its numerous qualities. This giant will reach 7 to 8m (23 to 26ft) in height in a few years, with a minimum spread of 3m². This variety is derived from the Clematis montana, originating from the Himalayas, an excellent garden plant abundantly planted in many of our regions. Just like it's parent, it does not require pruning, or only above a height of 2m (7ft), after flowering.

This clematis bears single flowers, small in size, measuring 4 to 6cm (2in) in diameter, which bloom incredibly generously in April-May. The bisexual flowers are grouped in axillary clusters of 1 to 5 flowers on long pedicels. They appear on the previous year's branches. They have 4 round to ovate petals, gracefully open in a star shape with a yellow stamen. Their colour is a shade of pink with lilac undertones, and their fragrance is spicy and sweet, reminiscent of cloves. The flowering is followed by decorative, feathery fruits in a greyish silver colour. The leaves are simple, palmate, with irregularly toothed edges, purplish when young, then bronze-green, in perfect harmony with the slightly faded pink flowers. This clematis clings to its support or the host plant through voluble petioles transformed into tendrils.

Plant your montana clematis alongside your climbing roses to extend the flowering of your walls and pergolas until the end of summer. The Clematis genus is rich in diversity, with varieties available in all colours, shapes, and sizes, suitable for experienced gardeners or beginners. Choose one of these queen climbers to give your garden a touch of romance and bohemian style. 'Tetrarose', a true spring delight, requires space to fully display its beauty. It will be magnificent in front of the house, for example, entwined around the wrought iron fence that encloses the garden for example. It will welcome visitors with its romantic and fragrant flowering. Also, offer it to a dear gardening friend, as this generous clematis is a true gift from nature.

Tips: Avoid excessive fertilisation, which stimulates foliage growth at the expense of flowers. Do not mulch to avoid excessive moisture that promotes wilt disease.

Planting and care

The 'Tetrarose' Montana Clematis is planted in spring or autumn, 5cm (2in) deep, placing the root ball flat on the ground instead of vertically as usual. The head in the sun and the foot in the shade, for example protected by a flat tile. The soil should be well-drained, well-loosened, and fairly fertile. It should remain moist in summer, even though after a few years, the clematis can tolerate some drought without any problems. Cover the base with a small mound of soil to promote new shoots. After planting, cut back the stems to 30cm (12in) from the base, above a pair of buds. Train them loosely to help the plant cling on its own in the future. Pruning afterwards will only consist of removing dead or damaged stems, either at the end of winter or after flowering.
