All the plants have started off very well and have adapted perfectly to their environment as usual with your plants. The dwarf buddleias were an exception: no problem.

Description

The Clematis patens 'Andromeda' is a new variety of clematis with large double flowers that stands out for its elegant white flowers with a carmine median in May/June and then again in August/September.

This 'Queen of lianas', 2m (7ft) tall, develops deciduous, pinnate medium green leaves, 5cm (2in) long, carried by voluble stems that twine around their support with tendrils. Its large double flowers are white with a carmine median and have long cream stamens, 12cm (5in) in diameter, and grow on the current year's branches. At the end of flowering, fruits appear and are topped with a silvery gray feathery style, very decorative.

The 'Andromeda' Clematis, very hardy, likes a clay-siliceous, light, deep, moist and fertile soil, in a sunny position with the base in shade. To achieve this, plant ground cover plants. The east is well suited. Suitable for pot cultivation.

The Clematis 'Andromeda', floriferous and elegant, is ideal for covering small pyramid structures or in a bush with dark foliage.

Tips: Avoid excessive fertilization that stimulates foliage at the expense of flowers. Do not mulch to avoid excessive moisture that promotes the disease of wilting.

Planting and care

The Clematis patens 'Andromeda' should be planted in spring or autumn, at a depth of 10cm (4in), with the root ball laid flat on the soil, rather than vertically as is usual. The head should be in the sun and the base in the shade. Cover the base with a small mound of soil to encourage new shoots. After planting, prune the stems to 30cm (12in) above the base, just above a pair of buds. Train them loosely to help the plant cling on its own later on. In June, prune every other branch to 50/80cm (20/32in) from the ground, every year.
