Clematis Aureolin

Clematis 'Aureolin' is a vigorous climbing perennial with a generous and prolonged flowering. Its trailing bell-shaped flowers open gently, from July to September, with slightly curved tepals. They golden yellow flowers are followed by feathery seed heads that adorn the green foliage and decorate various supports like trellises, arches, and walls.

Like most Clematis, 'Aureolin' prefers light, deep, moist, and fertile soil. It thrives in a sunny or partially shaded location, with the base of the plant in shade. It is frost-resistant and can tolerate cold temperatures. However, it does not tolerate stagnant moisture, so the soil should be well-drained and watering should be moderate (especially during establishment).

From mid-summer to early autumn, this Clematis, which can reach a height of up to 3m (10ft), produces single, solitary bell-shaped, 5cm (2in) long flowers on the current year's stems. These flowers have 4 lanceolate tepals with slightly curled tips in a vibrant sunny yellow. Their shape and colour add a playful touch to the green foliage in the background. The leaves are deciduous, compound, toothed, medium green, and 6 to 7cm (2 to 3in) long. They are carried by twisting stems that twine around their support. After flowering, attractive, airy and decorative seed heads appear, topped with a silvery grey feathery style.

Clematis 'Aureolin' is ideal for covering partially shaded areas that are often neglected, such as a uniform hedge of privet or an essential but unsightly fence. It can also be combined with other members of the same species for a coordinated display. Complete the picture with grasses, foxgloves, and a few nasturtiums to enjoy a long-lasting flowering.
